Willis on the radio

Radio 4, 1.30pm today is broadcasting a programme about the Willis firm.

And very interesting it was too, which happily came to my delighted attention at Pont-y-Clun, nr.Cardiff. (Good job I listen constantly to Radio 4, like Stephen Fry.....what would we do without it?

It didn't say anything new or tell me anything that I didn't already know, but it was nice to hear Dr David speak and one of the Willis voicers who had been with the firm since 1966, straight from school.

The contributions from Andrew Lumsden and Dr Nicholas Thistlethwaite were also interesting.

My only (small) gripe is this insistence on all things Victorian, when equally remarkable things have happened since.

But Father Willis is always a good subject for a pub conversation, and at least he was an organ-builder of some ability.

Apparently you're interviewed on it!

Have a listen here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0103wyx

Oh I knew that, but I just hadn't heard by then that it was actually on on that day.

They were here for hours and recorded a huge amount of stuff, so I think they might be using some of that for a different programme, perhaps in the future.

For Mr. Richell's information: It would have been difficult to interview HW4 as he lives in India and has done for several years now. Unlike some, I don't have much time for newspapers!

Sorry I am not very good with computers. I am always asking my lodger to help when I have a problem.

Please tell me what I am doing wrong, as it is obviously of immence importance that I am not perfect. Do I press "reply" or "fast reply" to answer a message ?

Thanks

Colin Richell

ps is this ok?

I don’t think there’s anything intrinsically wrong about asking your lodger for assistance when you have a problem.

Lifestyle choices are all around us, and at least your lodger is presumably welcome, unlike the one I briefly had in London.

That particular lodger dragged a fresh chicken under a kitchen cupboard and ran off; all traces of captor and captive disappearing without trace.

Wearing my diplomatic robe; (real rabbit-fur and fools-gold), I may agree with anyone or no-one, and I have met David Wylde when he was busy talking about recordings and promoting the cause of the Ally Pally organ. This really isn't the point.

The point is that of once more involving an innocent third party in someone else's turf war, and frankly, I'm just not interested.

I have a view on many things, but often keep them to myself; especially if they unfairly involve others.

I would hope that members of the board would not only respect the integrity of ALL organ-builders, but especially that of our hosts, who may or may not be placed in a difficult position by this sort of exchange.
