My wife says that Facebook has a post about Ely and St. Mary's, Edinburgh being vacant, but whether that means the respective maestro or the assistant is not clear.

I'm not aware of either the No.1 or No.2 posts at Ely being (or shortly becoming) vacant, and would be surprised if they were.
They were, however, advertising recently for an Assistant Organist to their Girls Choir (not the Cathedral Assistant Organist).

From the St Woolos Cathedral website:

The vacant post of Director of Music at St Woolos has now been filled. Dr Emma Gibbins, who is currently director of Music at St George's, Belfast, has been appointed.
This is excellent news for the Choir and for the Church Family, and we look forward to her taking up the post early in the New Year.

Excellent!  Belfast's loss is Newport's gain.

I hear Stephen Bullamore is moving from St Mary=le-Tower Ipswich to St Mary's Newark - but keeping up his North Herts connections

Indeed - although I had understood that Wakefield ceased to have an Anglican cathedral last Easter.

(Or is it to be so next year - I cannot now recall....)  It is still calling itself a cathedral on its website - and advertising for a new DofM; however, according to information received earlier this year, two cathedrals were to be 'lost', one of which was Wakefield. Does anyone have any further (or more accurate) information, please?

If I understand it correctly, it was just the dioceses that have been lost; the cathedrals continue as before.

Yes, a single diocese with three cathedrals: Ripon, Wakefield and Bradford.  Strangely, I think it is now called the Diocese of Leeds(?).

I don't, generally, recommend Wikipedia - but, for those who are interested in the Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales, officially the Diocese of Leeds, you will find it all set out, very clearly (?), including the status of Wakefield, Bradford and Ripon Cathedrals and of Leeds Minster, on the following page:

http://en.wikipedia....e_and_the_Dales

(pncd5584 - Wakefield is advertising for an Assistant Director of Music - not a Director)

They'll soon be up to speed with the Church of Ireland, e.g. Cashel, Ossory, Lismore, Waterford, Ferns and Leighlin.  A former bishop once remarked that one of the perks of his job was that he had six cathedrals.  The downside was that he also had six deans.

Geoffrey Woollatt, currently number 3 at Chester, a very fine organist, is to replace Jeffrey Makinson at Manchester.
