I definitely find that, if accompanied, mutation combinations can be used without a fundamental.  4, 2 2/3 and 1 3/5 is the most obvious, but one can get away without the 4'. In certain circumstances, particularly if the mutations are reasonably broad flutes, one can get away with using the nazard on its own as the solo, or even just the tierce.  There is a whole bunch of solo combinations obtainable in this way that so many players don't consider.
