  1. St Michaels Croyden, is one scary organ loft

But it whas when i almost fell from the top of all hallows gospel oak that gave me my fear of heights

    Matty

I saw this page of Cologne Cathedral http://www.koelner-dom.de/16955.html?&L=1 and the Klais mounted high up on the wall. I am ***** scared of heights and nothing on this planet would get me up there! Even St Michaels Croydon worried me quite a bit at first! Anyone else uncomfortable with heights and had to play with your fingernails digging into the top manual?

    Regards, Oliver.

  2. Think the best way of fixing the problem with this pipe would be to use a telephone and call in a new organ builder

18 months to sort out a problem like that

"tacked on card" can we place bets as to the colour of the card used??

  3. Having spent a few months on rebuilding this instrument i may be able to shed some light of a few things.

It sounds just as impressive as it looks on paper if not more so

I can still hear that tuba rining in my ears

There is no shortage of space in this organ despite its stop list, even enough room for a 32' open to sit alongside the bombardon to the right of the instrument.

From memory i belive there are 11 double rise bellows placed all around the instrument. Also that the 8' choir stopped diapasion is a old set of pipes, belived to be by father smith.

Mr Bruce Wegg was very protective about this instrument, he told me that the spec for the organ was to "make it loud"

Would also like to thank Mr Wegg for introducing me to "Bach goes to town!

I have some photos somewhere showing the inside of the instrument, will see if i can dig them out

  4. The Final Days of George Osmond & Co of Taunton

George Osmond was taken over sometime in the 80's by HNB / Christys

In Jan 1990 the first set of reduncancys was announced, this left only a handfull of staff remaining, but these were also all gone within the next 7 months.

In 1989 George Osmond had 2 large jobs in Progress.

    1. The rebuild of the organ at Chittlehampton Parish Church

    2. The Rebuild of the 3 manual organ in the chappel at Blundels School, Tiverton.

So What happened to them after?
