Hello all. I was in Guildford for evensong recently, the positive was all but removed and other stops/functions weren’t working. Does anybody know what’s happening there?

That narrows it down. Any more clues?

Help Please. I’ve recently moved from Scotland to Ashford, Middlesex (Surrey really). I’m looking for a church choir to join (in the area) that sings BCP evensong weekly. There’s one slight problem though. Due to the shift work I do, regular attendance (services and practice) isn’t possible. Any thoughts gratefully received. Thanks.

I agree. The "Best seat in the house" should be just that, a seat. If a member of the general public can't sit/stand there, then they shouldn't record there. All IMHO.

How about “Joseph’s Carol” by Giles Swayne?

I think every Carol service/Nine Lessons and Carols that I’ve ever done has opened with “Once in Royal”. Most Midnight Mass services I’ve been to start at 23:30, with “O come, all ye Faithful” as soon as possible after midnight, this usually includes the last verse “Yea, Lord we greet thee”.

In your opinion only. I find 99.9% of all your posts incredibly entertaining.

I guess it’s a matter of personal preference. I like to see a short history/specification of the organ, a brief description of the pieces (including what, if any, “special” stops were used), a brief biography of the performer, and (space permitting) photos of the organ.

A wonderful piece, makes you think as well. I rather like it.

I can't remember where I read it, but I'm sure I've read somewhere that Priory are looking into recording a new set of the Psalms. I've heard the Priory Durham and Rochester disks, both of which are very good. If I buy the Priory set, I'll have even more money to spend on organ cds.

I’m thinking of buying a complete set of psalms. I’ve not heard any of the Psalms from St Pauls, but am told it’s a very good set. Which set, if either, would you buy? If neither, is there another set you’d recommend? Thanks.
