  1. This direction isn't marked on my score, but I've heard it done this way many times......... G
  2. Has anyone mentioned Ian Farrington at all? You could always try his Fiesta! Suite for organ. http://www.iainfarrington.com/Fiesta%20page.html Great fun, but very tricky...............
  3. I think this must be one of the smallest organs to possess a 32' flue - http://www.npor.org.uk/cgi-bin/Rsearch.cgi...ec_index=N14807 Graham
  4. I noticed recently that Dupre's Sept Pieces Op.27 are available on musicroom.com at £72.50. A quick search on the OHS website found the same volume (presumably a reprint?) at $12.95 - or £8.58. That's a staggering difference
  5. This is from the Cathedral website http://www.llandaffcathedral.org.uk/Organ%...ecification.pdf
  6. This is an interesting website, although from the few prices shown it would appear that prospective buyers would need deep pockets. http://www.pipeorgans.de/en/catalogue/010000001047/ Especially at the current exchange rate!
  7. I don't know the instrument, but am I right in thinking it was once referred to as the loudest organ in London? Graham
  8. I think you must mean St Alban the Martyr, Holborn.........www.stalbans-holborn.com The organ is here http://npor.emma.cam.ac.uk/cgi-bin/Rsearch...ec_index=N17549 Graham
  9. Peter, Not always easy - search under "Rotherhithe".......... Graham
  10. Sorry I can't provide any information on the current state of the organ, but NPOR has it here http://npor.emma.cam.ac.uk/cgi-bin/Rsearch...ec_index=N08839
  11. I can also recommend this set http://www.amazon.com/Buxtehude-Organ-Works/dp/B0000007HN - Rene Saorgin playing the organs at Alkmaar, Zwolle, Altenbruch and Arlesheim. It pops up on ebay from time to time - I think I paid between £10 - £15 for it a few years ago.
  12. Baroque Tricks is newer - and cheaper - here: http://www.ohscatalog.org/raldowbartri.html
  13. See here http://stephenhicks.net/ Graham
  14. My early interest was fired by Nicholas Kynaston's "Great Organ Works" Lps, both recorded at the RAH in the early 1970's. Lots of loud stuff - Grand Choeur Dialogue (Gigout), Allegro from Symphonie No.6 (Widor), Carillon-Sortie (Mulet), but some delicate stuff too - Andante Cantabile from Symphonie No.4 (Widor) and Canon in B minor (Schumann). Other early Lps were Peter Hurford's "The Organ of St Albans Abbey" (Couperin, Daquin, Clerambault, Lebegue and Alain), The King of Instruments (referred to in earlier posts), Kenneth Gilbert playing two small Casavant organs in Canada (Buxtehude, Bohm, Walther), and Jane Parker-Smith playing at Westminster Cathedral - the Final from Widor 8 was a particular favourite, although not with the neighbours.............
  15. The University of Melbourne uncatalogued organ music collection shows "Sumsion, C Corbett (1890-ca.1943), brother of Herbert - 4 Preludes (1925)." Could one of these be MM's mystery piece?
  16. According to the third paragraph of this http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn41...12/ai_n12680031, Sumsion had three sons - at least one of whom was a talented amateur musician............. Graham
  17. The piece is Durufle's Fugue sur le theme du Carillon des Heures de la Cathedrale de Soissons, Op.12........... Graham
  18. Yes Mr B, I've had this many times. In my experience, the period between submitting new surveys & updates and the entry actually appearing on NPOR is six months. The acknowledgement by e-mail seems to be somewhat hit-and-miss, and on more than one occasion I have failed to receive one. However, Tony Newnham has always chased these up for me in the past. The Wiki approach sounds like a good idea, although that source itself is often plagued by inaccuracies. The problem would be in verifying the integrity of the added data. When I submitted an (accurate) specification update last year, an NPOR editor contacted me in order to find out exactly when various changes were made, and by whom - details which were not immediately obvious to me as a visiting player. G
  19. The Carshalton organ is shown here http://npor.emma.cam.ac.uk/cgi-bin/Rsearch...ec_index=H00191 I played it a few years ago, and seem to remember being disappointed that so much of the pedal organ specification was "prepared for". In particular, the Trombone 16' had no bottom octave (being the Gt/Ch 8 reed), which rendered it practically useless. But the Comper casework is dazzling, and the west end gallery position means it speaks well into the church. Happily, I see here that work is in hand to restore the instrument and complete the specification - http://www.willis-organs.com/carshalton_general.html Perhaps David Wyld can give more details? Graham
  20. The final page of Bairstow's Prelude in C springs to mind...... G
  21. It's a long shot, but this might help - http://www.ciao.se/Langlais_Organ_Concerto...n_Works__382866 Good luck! Graham
