  1. You could try here http://www.margaretphillips.org.uk/discography.htm where the 6 Preludes & Fugues are spread across two discs. I have one of these, and I enjoyed the playing very much. Recorded on the Exeter Cathedral organ before the recent work. Graham
  2. Yes - I found the following on Wikipedia: "Rick Wakeman of British progressive rock group Yes also used pipe organ to excellent effect in a number of the group's albums (including "Close To The Edge" and "Going For The One"). Wakeman has also used pipe organ in his solo pieces such as "Jane Seymour" from The Six Wives Of Henry VIII and "Judas Iscariot" from Criminal Record. Even more recently, he has recorded an entire album of organ pieces - "Rick Wakeman at Lincoln Cathedral"." Graham
  3. Are we to be given any clues as to the identity of the church and the provenance of the organ? Or not? Graham
  4. ........And lower the bench too, AND lose your favourite HB pencil underneath the pedalboard............
  5. I had the misfortune to hear the Wood arrangement of Bach's (?) T & F BWV565 on the opening night of the 2004 Prom Season. Based on that alone, my answer would have to be "no". But realistically, I would imagine that much of the romantic organ repertoire could work very well orchestrally - the Widor Symphonies (wasn't No.6 written for organ and orchestra?) and the Saint Saens Fantaisies spring to mind..... G
  6. For starters, how about Dupre's Symphonie-Passion................?
  7. I don't know the answer to that, but here is another example: http://npor.emma.cam.ac.uk/cgi-bin/Rsearch...ec_index=E00638 Formerly St Peter's Cranley Gardens SW7, this church is now St Yeghiche Armenian Church. Not only has the organ been retained, but it has been recently (2002) restored too. G
  8. I'd nominate Geoffrey Morgan of Christchurch Priory - a wonderfully skilled recitalist, accompanist, wit and raconteur. G
  9. On a similar tack, I believe one of John Scott's tricks when demonstrating the St Paul's organ was to play the opening of the Fantasie in Eb (Saint-Saens), one hand played on the chancel organ, the other on the west trumpets. Instead of repeating the chords as written, he would play both chords simultaneously. Due to the delay, the result was exactly as Saint-Saens intended - apart from the registration! G
  10. .......the tendency of most, if not all, congregations to replace the minim d natural in the penultimate bar with an f#. Surely yours do it too? Graham
  11. I found this today (on Tickell's website) http://www.tickell-organs.co.uk/specInfo/opus59.htm Looks interesting?
  12. Indeed it does Phil . I think the Westminster Mag & Nunc and "A Spotless Rose" are pretty special too, as well as the three Rhapsodies Op.17. Sorry, going off topic........... G
  13. Surely not? Ah, Howells..........
  14. A great way of working some calories off - fascinating! Is it just my ears, or has the sound been added later? At 50 secs, there's some ornamentation which I can't actually see being played. Or perhaps it's my eyes as well........... G
  15. How about "The voicing room" or "The swell box"?
  16. Funny that - at one of the carol services I played for last year, I managed to introduce "O come all ye faithful" by playing "Hark the Herald"............. And yet the Rutter given to me at short notice was fine - a case of relaxing too much I think.
  17. I don't think anyone upset Paul - wasn't it something to do with one of his own posts being read by a member of his church?
  18. I found this while trawling the web http://music.netstoreusa.com/gst/WBgstc00884.shtml - you might give it a try. You could also try this service http://www.organmusic.org.uk/Cat1006.pdf. although you'd need to know which volume it appeared in before ordering. G
  19. A friend gave a recital there some years ago, and used it for the very last chord of Durufle's Toccata. Apparently it was quite effective, although I'm struggling to think of any other use for such a stop. G
