  1. A very Interesting project, and glad to hear of its successful completion.

    The original specification looks very similar in size and stop nomenclature to Engler’s organ at Krzeszow (formerly Grüßau) built c.20 years earlier - a very fine instrument, familiar to some users of a certain software program. The differences between organs such as these and (for example) the Trost at Waltershausen, compared with those of Schnitger and G. Silbermann further north and west, are remarkable, and they deserve to be better-Known here.

    Thank you. I stand corrected. Can it also cope with the depleted wind required for Harmonies?

    I guess it almost certainly would - at least on some sample-sets, if not all.
    I shall experiment later....

    If you mean turning the blower off, hearing the wind sag, and the pipes gradually ceasing  to speak, that is something you definitely *can* do with "The-System-That-Must-Not-Be-Named".

  5. Direct quote from Sajid Javid's statement to the House of Commons this afternoon setting out changes from July 19th:
    “There will be ….. no restrictions on communal worship and singing.”
    Can't get much clearer than that, can it?

    IOne could go further and ask how many Cathedral's have a DoM who isn't  product of a Public School - or Oxbridge - or from an 'Ethnic Minority' but, perhaps I better not go there!!!!

    Of the 6 DoMs I served under since 1970...
    One had only "external" degrees (BMus & DMus);
    One was not public-school educated, and had no degrees at all (but was the unanimous choice for the job);
    One was neither public school nor Oxbridge.

  7. Various news media and Facebook friends have reported this weekend that congregational singing is now permitted (as of yesterday) in the German states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, and in the US state and Diocese of Rhode Island.

    The dam is beginning to break - at least in other places, if not yet here.
    What do their scientists know, that ours don't? Or are their governments simply being less cautious and risk-averse than ours?

    Why is the government treating amateur singers and professionals differently?

    Presumably to safeguard the professionals' income, whereas "amateurs" have no income to lose.
    There is no other logical explanation.

    I wondered whether Willis might figure!  Hereford would be excellent, but somewhat larger than what it is replacing!

    Bear in mind the organ won't only be used for leading services, but also for teaching, study and concerts.
    To the best of our knowledge this will be the first installation of its kind in any religious building in Oxbridge.

    Maybe in due course DHM will reveal which instrument(s) whose sounds it reproduces!

    Not yet finally confirmed, but probably Hereford (Willis), Caen St Etienne (C-C), Haarlem St Bavo (Müller), Friesach (Eisenbarth)....

    Only one, apparently.  Emmanuel United Reformed Church, 1880 restored to original state with the addition of a pedal trombone in 1992 by Harrison & Harrison.

    Emmanual URC has recently closed, and the building was sold to Pembroke College.
    I *think* I'm right in saying that Pembroke are retaining the organ, and using that space to rehearse their new girls choir.

    The Emmanuel congregation has merged with that of the church formerly known as St Columba's.
    Over the last year the latter building has been completely gutted and rebuilt, and is now known as Downing Place URC.
    There are now two joint DoMs (one from each former congregation), and the Minister is also an organist.
    They are all very excited about the arrival of their new organ next week (using a system which I'm not allowed to mention here...).
