  1. It's not even 30 years old, but seems to be redundant. https://www.pipeorgans.eu/en/pipeorgans/Kleuker-Steinmeyer-68-IV-P
  2. As one of the choir directors at Rochester I would wholeheartedly second that. He is a brilliant liturgical organist and a pleasure to work with.
  3. It has been noted elsewhere that several groups that currently use the church already have confirmed bookings for next year. When is a contract not a contract?
  4. https://slippedisc.com/2017/08/bad-faith-national-musicians-church-expels-its-musicians/
  5. Colin and others: Thank you. My education is obviously sadly lacking. Of course I knew that mixtures always broke back at various points, but it had simply never occurred to me that 4ft reeds might do the same. Is this, in fact, a standard practice of which I was hitherto unaware?
  6. And the Tonbridge School organ is of course another Marcussen. I wonder if it's a peculiarly Marcussen thing - or is it really normal practice in mainland Europe?
  7. I recently discovered that the 4ft Clairon on the Bovenwerk of the 1973 Marcussen at the Laurenskerk in Rotterdam breaks back an octave at F4, and I was told that "most clairons do this". Really? Not in the English-speaking organ world, surely?
  8. Sachin Gunga (currently ADoM at Wakefield) to succeed Oliver Hancock as Sub-Organist at Portsmouth from January 2018.
  9. Edward Turner, currently Organ Scholar at Southwell Minster, to be ADoM at Derby from September. (According to a FB post today from The Choirs of Southwell Minster.)
  10. I have to confess that, however well-intentioned it is, the term "Messy Church" puts me right off. Whatever happened to "decently and in order"? [Yes, I know, I'm a grumpy old git. ]
  11. Malcolm, Many thanks for this. Yes, I would certainly interested in hearing some of those. Let's talk more if we get a moment after tomorrow's concert.

Possibly the same post that I saw.

Thanks, both. That does indeed confirm what I thought was being referred to. But I was surprised not to have seen it publicly announced or discussed (e.g. on this board).
  14. Am I right in thinking that a firm based near Besançon is building a new organ for an educational establishment in Newcastle? I have seen a public tender document online which names the establishment and the builder.
  15. Are there any currently-available recordings of Percy Whitlock's Organ Symphony in G Minor, Basil Harwood's Organ Concerto in D, CH Lloyd's Organ Concerto, or any similar works?
  16. Sorry, forgot that. You're right, of course.
  17. Some board members may already have heard that the Gonzales organ of Soissons Cathedral was damaged last Thursday night when the west-end rose window imploded during a severe storm. There is more information (in German), links to French newspaper articles, and lots of pictures here: http://www.pfeifenorgelforum.net/forum/index.php?mode=thread&id=27713.
  18. David Poulter is Director of Music. Prof Ian Tracey is Organist Titulaire. Both are listed on the Cathedral's staff page here: http://www.liverpoolcathedral.org.uk/home/about-us/cathedral-people/staff.aspx.
  19. There is certainly a growing interest in Germany in English organs and English choral music. I know of two or three German firms that buy up unwanted English organs and re-home them. In August 2015 we sang Choral Evensong accompanied by this rather unusual instrument (Roberts & Co, Leeds, 1909): http://www.orgelbau-fasen.de/+kyllburg/start.htm.

There is a copy in "new or as new" condition for £8.00 here: http://www.usedorganmusic.co.uk/Cat1216.pdf
  21. According to a post on his Facebook page today, Luke Bond will move from Truro to Windsor as Asst DoM in Holy Week 2017.
  22. Very interesting! Thanks for posting. (Never heard of the organist, though.)
  23. I would have thought *Lay* Canon rather than Honorary Canon. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think James Lancelot holds a similar position at Durham.
