Tim Hiill has, at short notice taken over from Jonathan Bielby as interim DoM, bringing forward a scheme to link the post with the Cathedral School. The dean has promised more detail to be revealed this month.

It really is a most interesting situation, and I can see merits and minuses in both sides of the argument. It appears that St Mary Abbots already has a recently purchased chamber organ, see "The Organs of St Mary Abbots" in here http://smanews.weebly.com/uploads/5/0/2/5/5025325/kpn_-_advent_2013.pdf so it seems they already have a small box organ that might accompany the daily offices as SL suggests above. With this in mind, I remain curious as to the design and function in the overall scheme of the proposed chancel organ - and what they will get for £35,000!

Looking through the documentation, I see that the sum set aside for the new Chancel organ is £35,000. I would not think this buys much new pipe organ - are they intending to install an electronic organ??

And also a robust response to the Vicar's points with solid arguments against the plans.

Ah, I understand how it works now and would be very interested to hear the effect. Does anyone know of a UK example of the double expression box?

What an interesting specification, thank you for posting. I've never encountered double enclosure before and wonder if anyone can enlighten me as to its musical benefit and perhaps links to other instruments that use this system?

There is a temporary (from 3rd March to10th May 2015) exhibition in Royal Leamington Spa Art Gallery and Museum "A Leamington Musical Meteor: William Denis Browne" which is both poignant and interesting. Sheet music and correspondence are displayed - though the sheet music are secular songs and not Browne in A is not present. Photos illustrate Browne's short life: as a schoolboy in Leamington and at Rugby School, as Organ Scholar at Clare College, Cambridge (though the photo is of the organ in the Queens' College.....), Gallipoli and his close friendship with famous poets. There is also music to listen to via headphones and it is easy to hear why he was held in high esteem as a composer by his contemporaries. Perhaps not worth a long journey, but certainly of interest to those within reasonable distance. Connected is the Gallilopi Music Memorial 2015 with various musical events featuring Browne's music over the year, including a concerts at Kings College on the 26th April, two events on the date of Browne's death the 4th June - a concert at St Martin-in-the -Fields and Evensong at Clare which I imagine will include the Mag and Nunc. I haven't seen an ad for the DoM job at Exeter which will be available in September I believe. Has an appointment been made?

As a former Assistant here, an age ago, it is heartening to read of this appointment, and I hope that choral and organ music in this magnificent church and the Magnus Song School will once again flourish.

Dr Emma Gibbins, who is currently director of Music at St George's, Belfast, has been appointed. Can't help you on the planning front, but as part of "Cornwall remembers" we had a special and well attended evensong today in Truro Cathedral, three anthems: greater love, like as the hart and the Rutter Gaelic Blessing. Organ voluntary was Crown Imperial. Good luck tomorrow !

I am grateful that PCNDs rather worrying comments regarding spelling it out to me have been removed, as has his offer to buy my silence in return for permission to visit the organ at Wimborne. I sincerely hope that lessons have been learned and that we can move on from this conversation and return to the friendly and informative board as John Mander requests above.
