  1. F H Browne and Sons is proud to announce that it has acquired Mander Organs of London and from 1st October 2020 will trade as Mander Organ Builders.

The acquisition of Mander Organs allows F H Browne, now in its 150th year, to continue recent growth within the organ building industry, reaching a wider market, and building on the collective expertise of both F H Browne and Mander.  The company will maintain and extend the provision of all our existing services (new builds, restorations, tuning and maintenance, and coverings), led by the current F H Browne management team.

We are also delighted to welcome John Mander as Chairman of Mander Organ Builders, his expertise and insight will be invaluable to moving the business forward and will also demonstrate continuity with the Mander Organs business which has been successful in the UK and Internationally since the 1930s.

F H Browne moved to a new purpose-built workshop just outside Canterbury at the end of 2019, from where we will continue to base our operations.

All existing staff, of which four are former Mander employees, will continue in their current roles, providing service to existing valued customers.

Over the coming weeks and months, you will notice a few changes, including our website, logo and e-mail addresses.  However, existing phone numbers will remain unaltered, and from a day-to-day perspective, there will be no changes to the service provided, or to our costs.  We will continue to maintain a strong local presence, as well as reaching a wider market in the UK and abroad.

  2. Many thanks for the message Steve and I thought it might be easier to reply to the forum so all are aware. I am the web designer that looks after this forum and also the Mander Organs web site.

The future of this forum lies with the liquidators. I have been in contact with them and am waiting to hear their views. Practically I think that it cannot continue to be funded by Mander Organs as they are no more so the options are as you say - funds are raised through crowdfunding to pay the monthly bill of $45 - or a forum is set up by someone elsewhere and if possible, the posts from this forum added to it. Adding the posts from this forum to a new one will cost but I suppose it comes down as to who will pay for doing it.

It would be helpful to know the appetite for members here to contribute towards keeping this forum going ? If many are willing to help fund it then that is obviously easiest option. I can set up a fund raising page if this is thought the best way to go.

Failing that, then a new phpBB forum or something similar will suffice but the functionality is unlikely to be as good as this forum and of course someone needs to set it up and run it.

I will try and find out when funding will stop for this forum and post it here. We may need to move quickly on this as the forum may cease with little notice. My email admin@newvalleywebdesign.com is working and now also the domain.

Best wishes to all during these difficult times.

    Stephen

  3. Mander Organs Ltd is pleased to announce that, with effect from Thursday November 1st 2018, the company’s shareholding has been transferred into an Employee Ownership Trust.

Geoff McMahon succeeds John Mander as Managing Director, and Michael Blighton joins him on the Board as Tonal Director.

Photographs and further details are available here https://mander-organs.com/mander-organs-is-now-an-employee-ownership-trust/

  4. There has been a request to sub divide the Organ and its Music into 2 topics; one for the Organ and the other for Organ Music.

The majority of the posts in this topic are for the Organ and so the music posts are being lost.  Looking at the size of this topic, this makes sense. Therefore this topic has been sub divided into two parts which will allow for those with more of an interest in the music to have greater visibility of their posts.

We are always looking at ways to improve this popular Mander Organs Forum so please use the contact form for any suggestions.

  5. There has been no adverse reaction to the suggestion of the forum software being upgraded to the latest version and so this will occur in the next few days. The current version is about 5 years out of date.

The board will look different, have more options and will I believe enhance your experience using of this forum. In addition, it will provide a secure connection to your browser which will improve the security of username and password when logging in.

Most of the changes will be obvious and intuitive however there is one that you should be aware of now and that concerns usernames and display names. You will still be able to login using your current username and password however you will need to change your display name yourself to your preferred option as that will not be carried over.

If you have any queries or there are some issues then please email: adminnospamnewvalleywebdesign.com (replace nospam with @)

  6. We are considering upgrading the software for this forum to the latest version.

The advantages are that it is more secure, has a cleaner look, is more intuitive, has additional features and is easier to administer. An example of a forum using the latest software is here: https://www.devfuse.com/forums/

The most important point in all of this is you, our user. We do not want to lose you and yet we wish to provide you with the best forum experience we can.

Change is always difficult but perhaps the time is now right to move to a more modern board with functionality that the majority of the other forums have on the internet today.

Users and topics will be moved over and unless there is a huge outcry we intend to move to the new forum in the next couple of weeks.

  7. A report page has been to the added to the website here: https://mander-organs.com/reports/ which gives people access to the reports that Mander Organs have done either on restoration projects or bespoke projects. 4 reports have been published so far and more will be added in due course.

The latest published reports will be publicised on the front page of the website with the latest news.

I hope you find them of interest.
