The Church of St Alfege in Greenwich, the church I belong to in fact, is looking for an assistant organist from September. Details of the post can be seen here: http://www.stalfegechoir.org.uk/assistant-organist/ St Alfege has a long-standing reputation for its high quality of music, supported strongly by both the clergy and the congregation. Everybody will know that Thomas Tallis was organist there, less are probably aware that he is buried in the crypt of the church. Kirkmann, the harpsichord maker, is also buried at St Alfege. The church is very lively and welcoming, with a remarkably broad representation of the local community. Many members of the congregation come from outside the parish and there are usually between 100 and 150 at the Sunday services, very many more on high feasts and holy days. The litergy is modern, traditional language. An anthem is sung at every Sunday service as well as during the administration. Stephen Dagg, director of the Centre for Young Musicians, is the DoM. The church itself is a gem, set in the middle of Greenwich and built by Hawksmoor, with a good acoustic, and the choir is really very good indeed (and great fun to boot). John
