Guest Psalm 78 v.67
I played Manchester Cathedral, some years ago, and on the console was a handwritten list of Preces/Responses settings, with their keys - obviously so the voluntary/improvisation could end appropriately. The list was headed "Volleys" - why? (Is it a slang title for for "Voluntaries"?) (As I said in the topic title, I'm probably going to feel very silly when I learn the answer....but other than my wild guess, I can't think what it might be)
contrabordun
Tennis, maybe? Although there also the volley comes after the service.
Charles Wooler
My best man was untill recently organ scholar of manchester and he always referred to the Manchester Cathedral Voluntary Choir as "The Volleys". Does that shed light?
Guest Psalm 78 v.67
Ahh - presumably the list was the Voluntary Choir's Responses repertoire - thank you!
