Sherer has been the Organist and Director of Music since 1996 and where 2,000 people worship each Sunday. USA Today recently picked Fourth Presbyterian Church as one of top ten places in America to be “enthralled by heavenly music.” The church has a 126-rank Aeolian-Skinner organ and nine choirs and instrumental groups including The Morning Choir, a twenty-six voice professional ensemble and Tower Brass, a professional octet. Dr. Sherer manages an active concert series at the church with over eighty events each year. The Morning Choir and Dr. Sherer were in the film 'My Best Friend’s Wedding' the wedding being at The Fourth Presbyterian Church. In addition to his work at Fourth Presbyterian Church he is a frequent guest conductor with the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, has done numerous lectures and clinics on church music and is a published author and composer. Dr Sherer will be performing an all-American programme at St Chad's Cathedral Birmingham on Tuesday 21st June at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5/£3 Do come along. DQB123 Posted June 25, 2011 Share Posted June 25, 2011 Dear Friends, This is just to let you know that we are holding one of our concerts here, at The Old Chapel on Saturday July 23rd at 7.15.p.m, finishing at approximately 9.15.p.m. I should say that there is no charge for admission, but to cover costs (largely organ tuning) we hope for a donation of £7.00. As usual Gill will provide light refreshments. For those who have not been before our address is: The Old Chapel, Trelogan, Holywell, Flintshire, CH8 9BD. We live halfway between Holywell and Prestatyn. There are frequent trains to Prestatyn, but few buses to Trelogan. Sometimes, depending on numbers we can pick people up from Prestatyn Station. There is a taxi rank there,too! If you are coming by car, parking is 200 yds beyond our house - plenty of space! On this occasion I will play a programme consisting entirely of organ music and will include some music which you are unlikely to have heard before, in addition to well know favourites. For space reasons, we are able to welcome a maximum of 30 people, so would appreciate it very much if you can telephone 01745 561072 if you wish to attend. If you are unable to attend, we very much hope that will be able to pass this information on to others who might be interested. We hope very much that we shall have the pleasure of seeing you, together with friends or spouses on July 23rd. The church rarely holds organ recitals and asked for 'popular' pieces. So I deliberately chose a programme one seldom hears these days: the kind of selection Noel Rawsthorne would play, especially for those unused to organ music, and which first drew me to the organ in the '80s. The Widor was a request; two couples in the audience were celebrating wedding anniversaries. Actually, I've never played BWV565 in a public recital (what a good opener it is!) and rarely programme the Widor without other movements from the same symphony. It all hung together rather well and a large, varied audience went away happy, humming tunes and saying how good it was to hear their organ "in its own right" rather than during the liturgy. Firstly, on Tuesday 13th September, the first lunchtime recital of the Michaelmas term will be given by Simon Hogan, organ scholar at St. Paul's Cathedral, London. Start time: 1:15pm. Secondly, on Wednesday 21st September at 7:30pm, a recital will be given at Christ Church, Broad Street by Andrew Dewar (American Cathedral, Paris). The programme is to be as follows: - Fantasia & Toccata op. 57 (CV Stanford) - Trio Sonata no. 4 in E minor, BWV 528 (JS Bach) - Salamanca (Guy Bovet) - Uppon La Mi Re (Anon) - Toccata in E major (Jürgen Essl) (interval) Ad nos, ad salutarem undam (Franz Liszt) Tickets £9.50 (£.750 concs.) to include a glass of wine in the interval.
