Strictly, the end of the year in which that anniversary occurs - so Widor is still in copyright, for instance, though the 70th anniversary date was in March.

Yes, thank you. But there is an interesting 'glitch' in that the limit was increased from fifty years on 1st January 1986. This is known as revived copyright. Elgar is an example. His music was copyright until 1984 and then from 1986 to 2004. (He died in 1934.) Music photocopied in the middle period may continue to be used, subject to a Statutory Notice. A fee may be charged.
