What do you recommend? I know he is in the ‘play this and get labeled a romantic’ category. Sure there were some chromatics that made me giggle when I read through some of his works, but there was some real beautiful ideas for solo colours, harmonic flutes, that “French” sound.

To play or not? :unsure:

Three guaranteed crowd pleasers are

Toccata in G major

Marche des Rois Mages and

Fiat Lux.

 

You're right, there are lots of softer pieces, useful for colourful voluntaries. I can strongly recommend all the above as both musical and entertaining.

There are two books... one is seven pieces for organ (in french) and i think the other is five. One is blue one is green. They contain many beautiful shorter pieces, including a piere where u can smell the incense wafting around. It is very 'high church' music :unsure:

 

the gmajor toccata you can't go wrong with though
