pcnd5584
Following the welcome return of this excellent board, I was idly perusing various contributions and, by chance, selected the profile of a member. I note (in a somewhat tired and bemused kind of way) that the graphics, layout and some of the content have changed. I subsequently checked several other profiles and discovered an interesting fact: none of us has any friends.... Does anyone have any views on this facet of this most absorbing discussion forum? For that matter, I further note that the posting layout has also changed - since the board has returned. .... This is all most intriguing.... Vox Humana
No more than I would expect, M'sieur. People with friends don't spend their lives glued to the internet! But I'll leave you a comment, if you like... I see there is also a facility to give a member a star rating. Now this is really not a good idea. Anyone know a cheap supply of hemlock? There appears to be a curious pradox in that, while the full range of emoticons is available from the icon above the fast reply window, only a more limited selection is available when in "more options". I like the new look personally.

I can explain thees meestry. The Mander Organs Invision Power Board has been upgraded to version 2.3.1, and this version has the additional feature of being able to "have friends". The option to "have friends" wasn't there until about 36 hours ago, which is why at the moment no one seems to have any. :-) Moderator, Mander Organs

In which case, I suppose that it is far too late to request a reversion to the original 'Mander' branding?
Guest Geoff McMahon
In which case, I suppose that it is far too late to request a reversion to the original 'Mander' branding? The original Mander branding (the "skin" in the jargon) will be put back in - it drops out every time the board is upgraded because we haven't yet saved it as a distinct and separate "skin"; and in every upgrade change the "administration" panel changes quite a lot (to make it easier to manage the board even if you don't have any coding skills), so some procedures are different. john carter
One difference I notice is that I have to log in daily, even though the stored "cookie" supposedly remains valid for one year. It's not a problem, just something I keep forgetting on my first visit of the day. JC

I have tried downloading Mozilla Firefox and, whilst I shall keep this alternative browser, it has a similar problem. I wonder what part of the new board is not talking to our computers? I have contacted the board moderator about the problem and received some help. However, I have yet to learn whether or not downloading MSIE 7.0. will cure the problem. Does anyone know whether, if I do download this new version, it will either lose or overwrite my favourites/bookmarks, please?

IE7 won't overwrite your bookmarks, and it won't solve any issues with displaying this BB either. It will b*gg*r up your anti-virus if you're using Norton in any version earlier than 360. Firefox has none of these issues, and is more secure too!
Vox Humana
Firefox is significantly slower to load though, at least on my machine.

No, I do not use Norton (since it used to argue with about half the programmes on my computer). I use AVG and Zone Alarm - basically because they do not quarrel and they are free. So does anyone have any idea how I can persuade MSIE (6.0) or Mozilla Firefox (2.0) to remember me on this board, please?

I use a variety of Apple Macs and none of them persuade this board to remember me , although I have no problem with similar boards on other sites. One even knew it was me after I'd got a brand new computer and used the built-in software to copy everything from the old one! On the other hand I've never suffered from computer viruses or spyware or trojans and have never felt that I should buy Norton.
Guest Lee Blick
Nortons is awful. I had it preloaded on this computer when I bought it. I removed it and put AVG on, and now my computer is noticably much faster!

I now find myself lucky enough to have two three (!) friends on this forum - interesting though is the other box which tells who has been 'visiting'! (If it is a non member does it say 'annonymous user' like on the main page? - I've always thought of his as sounding rather dodgy but could it also be classed as virtual stalking!!!!!)
