emsgdh Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Dear Friends: Ashamed to say that I've never learned the Fugue. Is there a preferred edition ? Not too interested in scholarship. Want an edition edition that is well laid-out & fingered for comfortable and quick learning. Any thoughts ?
Pierre Lauwers Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 I know of this one.... http://www.free-scores.com/boutique/boutiq....php?clef=72364 Pierre
Guest Cynic Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 I recommend the E.H.Thorne version, published by Bayley and Ferguson in a volume [six Organ Pieces - S.S.Wesley]. You'll not find this new anymore, but second-hand copies turn up regularly. I also have the version from Hinrichsen's Tallis to Wesley series here, but this is not terribly helpful to play from since it reproduces the original score which doesn't actually work on 99% of the organs one actually meets.

Guest Lee Blick Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 which doesn't actually work on 99% of the organs one actually meets. ...perhaps that is deliberate!
Pierre Lauwers Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 ...perhaps that is deliberate! .....Because of Samuel-Sebastian's will to stick to old-fashioned british compasses -and unequal temperament- Pierre
Guest Lee Blick Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Yes, I know that full well. I was being facetious
Pierre Lauwers Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 .....Also, maybe a chance for some "music boxes" to be reconstituted as they were, escaping the mandatory "neo-isation" ? (Green, Snetzler, Smith, England.....Etc!) There is even some Repertoire for them !!! Pierre
