Pierre Lauwers 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2009 Two fine finds this morning on Youtube. -BWV 543 by Chorzempa. This is the best interpretation I know ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZRLkdPnpiQ...feature=related -The same by Gehrard Weinberger. Not worth Chorzempa, BUT.... played upon one of the very best "Bach organs" we still have, that is, Joachim Wagner's tremendous achievment in Angermünde in 1742: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqoaGTlgex0 So now the solution for a recording firm is obvious. Take Mr Chorzempa, and have him playing the Wagner organ. The result will be THE reference... Pierre
Vox Humana 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2009 Acoustic's a bit swimmy, but phwooar! (Well, I though so.) The organ so suits this beautiful building. Do I hear the Bombarde Basse at the end? It's been reported on here before that the bottom octave of that stop is now electronic, but this sounds more like the earthquake I remember from the quinted pipes - or is it just distortion? One of my fav. CDs is Gerre Hancock - including an improvised full organ symphony here - JAV - you get an earfull or two of the 64 and all the rest! AJJ 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2009 A Michael Jackson tribute!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-mxVexV8v0 I did something similar but only used the opening phrase as the basis of an improvisation - 'came out sounding like Langlais - one or two recognised it though. Pierre Lauwers 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 A somewhat different version of J. Jongen's choral, but worth to be listened to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeEGJH1HyCs...feature=related This organ is one of the summits! J-A Audsley's spirit is still alive there. Peter Clark 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Probably not - I'll get the choir to turn up with kazoos and comb and paper. This, however, seems a bit OTT: P
Alistair McEwan 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Probably not - I'll get the choir to turn up with kazoos and comb and paper. This, however, seems a bit OTT: P That's showbusiness folks. Rodgers have promoted their products in this fashion over a long period, simply updating as necessary! Clearly designed to appeal to the general public rather than the liturgical organist. Good luck with the kazoos. A

Pierre Lauwers 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2009 The Passacaglia in E-Moll from Reger, played by Gerd Zacher at the Essen-Werden Walcker (pneumatic, original 1907 state) organ, with a video of Dunnotar, Scotland: One of my preffered players for Reger ! pcnd5584 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2009 This one is perhaps more interesting for the information than the music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLXEdo5H6kk...feature=related However, it does seem to imply that Washington National Cathedral will be restoring and keeping their existing instrument, in addition to building a new classical, mechanical action organ in the west gallery. Malcolm Farr 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2009 Hi all For various reasons, I haven't been "on board" for a while, and I therefore apologise if these have already been posted somewhere in the preceding 22 pages. Interesting transcriptions of organ music for another medium: Widor's ubiquitous Toccata (Only the first 4:30 of 7:18; remainder apparently blank) Toccata from the Suite Gothique Rgds MJF
Paul Morley 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2009 Toccata from the Suite Gothique ...a far better 'instrument' upon which to perform this piece than the RNCM organ lurking in the background, I would suggest.
