Château De Candé

We were in the Loire valley last week and I came across this chateau - where the Duke of Windsor married Mrs Simpson in June 1937 (I seem to remember someone famous played for the wedding too).

Here:

is the spec. of the 1928 Skinner organ there - despite its wrong (?) place designation - it was/is the only Skinner in France so must be the same one. Château de Condé appears to be in a totally different region. Does anyone know if it still works? I was unable to find out.

The wedding - I read only recently that it was Dupre who played, something that maybe i should have known before.

I had also understood this to be the case. However, if you read this article, Dupré apparently only played background music in the music room at the Château de Candé after the civil ceremony. It is possible that he played for the religious ceremony too; the article does not make any reference to where the 'full church ceremony' took place. Given that the article refers to the fact that Edward and Mrs. Simpson were in love before his 'ascension to the throne' (call me cynical if you like, but I suspect that the writer actually meant 'accession to the throne'; I have never heard anyone suggest that the Duke had any pretensions to Divinity) - and the fact that this site is entitled Trivia-library.com - it may have some similarities to Wikipedia, in as much as the veracity of some of its information is concerned.

On balance, I think that I am more inclined to believe Barry's post, which follows directly....

What may be less well known, is that, whilst Edward was Governor of the Bahamas (1940 - 45), a murder took place in the Governor's villa. Unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful in tracing anything which could substantiate my own information.

Yes, I have written about this elsewhere on this Board. M. Dupre played his own 'Cortege' (from 'Cortege and Litany') for the bridal procession and a certain Toccata by Charles, Jean-Marie Albert Widor at the end. And then there is the story of 'O Perfect Love'...!"
