pcnd5584
This is not intended to be a long thread - simply to request information. Whilst many features of this (free) board are excellent, I wonder if there is any way of refining the 'search' facility (unless of course, I am simply using it in an inept fashion) ? If I type in a request, instead of being directed to individual posts, perhaps with the selected words in bold type - or highlighted *, I am invariably confronted with a page of threads which looks uncannily like the first page of the 'General Discussion' list. Is there any way of refining this - or am I using it incorrectly? In addition, I wonder if, amongst the board's statistics, is correct: "Most users ever online was 1 on Jun 2 2007, 04:52 PM." Given that the other statistics look perfectly plausible, I have my doubts as to the veracity of this particular statement.... However, I wish to put on record my continued gratefulness for Mr. John Mander's continuing support of this board - without which my life would be somewhat less enriched. * I am fairly certain that this is what used to happen when performing a 'search', before the board was reloaded. Vox Humana
Go to the search menu above and select the "more search options" link. Then on the next page select "more options" once more. This will bring up the advanced search facility where you will find a "show results as posts" radio button that will give you what you want. Yes, it would be nice to know the real number of most users online - but I imagine that 70% of them would be search spiders.

I must read forms more carefully - I should have spotted this.

pcnd5584
Anyway, shouldn't you be in church? Or are you whiling away the sermon? Ma non, M'sieur! C'est le half-term. A colleague is presiding over my greatly-loved JWWW for Mass and Matins (sans les choristes et messieurs). In addition, another colleague is playing for Evensong 'with hymns' and - Deo gratias - the 'Animal Thanksgiving' service this afternoon.... The "most users ever online" script has never ever worked as it should and, in the end, we deleted it. However, when the board was last upgraded, it reappeared; I have to find the time to look in the board's many, many control panels and find the script again and delete it once more. pcnd5584
The "Carnaval des animaux" ? Really ? Pierre Unfortunately - yes. Apparently*, the first year there was a donkey which defecated halfway down the Nave, a bird which made a bid for freedom from its enclosure - and eventually flew out of a clerestory window which had been left open, a pair of over-excited dogs which promptly indulged in a spot of rutting (which sent one or two of the more sensitive souls running to fill buckets with cold water) and various small furry creatures, not all of which left the church at the conclusion of the service. Thank God for deputies.... * By means of careful planning (and a little creativity) I have not yet actually had to attend and play for this service. Incidentally (and again I am not trying to appear ungrateful) but is there any chance of enabling the 'Avatar' feature, please?
Guest Geoff McMahon
Incidentally (and again I am not trying to appear ungrateful) but is there any chance of enabling the 'Avatar' feature, please? Avatars are fun but enabling this "function" would also increase the bandwidth volume which is already huge (and for which we pay the ISP). Guest Geoff McMahon
And the board doesn't seem to have taken into account that the clocks have gone back! The board is set to the correct timezone (ie Casablanca/Dublin/Lisbon/ London/Monrovia), and participants can correct the timestamp on the posted messages by your 'Board settings' in your User Control Panel. Moderator, Mander Organs I'm surprised then that, as we've returned to UT (GMT), the board doesn't reflect that. Perhaps I'm missing something, or have my settings set to BST? Malcolm Kemp
I think this point may have been raised, and answered, before but I wonder why it is that some days I can log-in after breakfast and keep going back in again for a period of well over 24 hours before I have to do the log-in process again, and yet on other days I have to log-in every time I look at the site. I think I've logged in at least four times today. Is it something I'm doing wrong on some days? OK, I'm a bit sad and lacking in a meaningful life in that I feel a need to look at the site several times a day but perhaps that is indicative of how much I appreciate it and, indeed, how much I learn from it. When you live within easy walking distance of two crematoria and you seem to spend your life playing for funerals in order to beat the world economic situation this site brightens up one's day no end! Malcolm You may need to look at your cookie settings; I have not needed to log in on my own computer for weeks. Incidentally, I am sorry, but whilst clearing out a very full inbox a few weeks ago, I appear to have deleted your address and I have a Cochereau transcription to send to you. Could you please send me your address again.

It's unusual as I find that all the other discussion forums to which I belong - including another supplied by the same Invision Power Board - always remember me, but this one generally doesn't. I'm occasionally amazed when it does! G
