Bringing In The Sheaves

Recommended Posts

Guest Echo Gamba

Can anyone please help me source the music to this hymn? v.1 and chorus as follows. I need it for a funeral on Friday 23rd January.

I believe it might be in "Sacred Sonds & Solo's" of which I cannot locate a copy. If anyone can supply me with a pdf, please PM me or email via my profile page. Many thanks on advance!

Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,

Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve;

Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping,

We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,

We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves;

Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,

We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

For anyone else interested, see

http://www.mfiles.co.uk/scores/bringing-in-the-sheaves.htm

or

(Second link includes the words)

The composer was George A. Minor but he wrote it in the key of C major!

There has been some debate about whether Charles Ives quoted this tune in some of his works, or merely another tune like it.

The one I've downloaded is in Bb - better for congregational singing, and the deceased was 105!
