Cuthbert Harris

Does anyone know if the 'Caprice' by Cuthbert Harris is available in print? Interestingly, it appears among the items on the Priory compilation 'Fanfare II', but due to a typo it is credited to 'W Harris', which threw me for a while. Research has now proved that the other gentleman by this surname is indeed the composer of this lovely little piece, which for those not familiar with it is an 'echo' work in the same vein as the Eb Fantasie by Saint-Saens, or the Verset by Guilmant.

I looked Harris up in John Henderson's Dictionary, and discovered that he used to be organist of the Church that I attend - St. Leonard's, Streatham.

A bit of googling led me here - http://www.bardon-music.com/music.php?id=H...s_Cuthbert_1870 - some pdf files of the first page of several compositions, together with midi files of the complete pieces. Sadly, IMHO the quality leaves everything to be desired. Does anyone know of any decent stuff of his (organ and/or choral) and where it might be obtained?

I play this piece quite often - and it is of much better quality than some of his other output.

It is available in 'A Victorian Organ Album' edited by Malcolm Archer, and I believe it is available from Allegro Music.

I played it last week during the offertory in a service in Amsterdam - as usual, people were interested to know what it was!

If you would like more details about getting hold of it, PM me.

Best regards
