handsoff
I am in the same position - in fact, I have never even seen a SACD player. I have one or two other discs in this format. Does amyone know if there is some downloadable programme (preferably legal) which would allow one to access this layer on a CD-ROM, for example, please? I haven't been able to find one thus far but I think that it is more a hardware issue, the disc itself having a separate layer with the SA on it and which needs to be read by a different laser/lens. When next I go into town I'll drop into our local hi-fi store and ask there. I also want my Pierre Cochereau Dupré LPs copied onto CD and I hope that they will be able to do that for me. I know that I can post them away to various companies but don't want to risk loss or damage as it was hard enough to find a mint double album in the first place; hence my wish for CD copies. I will report back...

handsoff
No joy from the hi-fi shop I'm afraid. They would have been very happy to sell me a SACD deck but I already have good quality standard CD equipment and am not prepared to pay a lot of cash just to hear a few extra tracks. The alternative is apparently to find someone who has both a SACD player and a cassette deck and ask them to produce a tape of the SA layer. That would suit me fine.... They also have no facility to produce CDs from LPs. Some reasonably sophisticated software is necessary and specialists are the best bet for good results; a good one will also copy the album cover and produce inserts with the tracks listed thereupon. They did warn me against buying the all-in-one systems advertised in Radio Times and the like as the software is of the most basic kind with no facility for noise filtering, and the decks are very poor quality using a stylus pressure akin to a 6 inch nail; not good for that hard-to-obtain LP. I have found (by googling) a professional duplication company based in Sutton Coldfield, who are happy to allow personal delivery and collection, at a cost of £20 per LP. When next I drive in that direction I shall drop in. I guess that most areas will have at least one company within a reasonable distance.
