jackaubrey Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I haven't seen an ad for the DoM job at Exeter which will be available in September I believe. Has an appointment been made?
Contrabombarde Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 St Peter and St Pauls Lavenham have just said farewell to their organist - the organ there started life as a three manual Father Willis transplanted from another church, with a fourth manual Solo apparently coming from the remains of a one manual local instrument.

innate Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Apologies to our hosts if this is considered not appropriate for this board but after reading the Lavenham story in the linked article I tried to Google "Organist dismissal Muswell Hill Bate" [without the quote marks] and got no relevant hits. I thought legal precedents had been set in that earlier case.
DHM Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Am I right in thinking there has been a recent change of musical management at St John's RC Cathedral in Norwich?
AJJ Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 New Diocesan DoM coming from Leeds Cathedral sometime this year I think. A

Positif Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Ralph Allwood is to become DoM at Queens' Cambridge. I wonder if this can dovetail with his work at Trinity Laban.
DHM Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Ben Bloor, currently Organ Scholar at Westminster Cathedral, previously Organ Scholar at St George's Chapel, Windsor and New College, Oxford, to be the Michael James Assistant Sub-Organist at Rochester Cathedral from 1 September 2015. This new position replaces the posts of Cathedral Organist (currently held by Adrian Bawtree) and Organ Scholar (currently Jack Spencer).

DaveHarries Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 George Richford to Romsey Abbey Robert Fielding (who was my organ teacher when I started out) spent quite a few years there and I didn't realise he had gone. Has he retired, or simply gone elsewhere? And when did he finish? Dave
pcnd5584 Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Robert Fielding (who was my organ teacher when I started out) spent quite a few years there and I didn't realise he had gone. Has he retired, or simply gone elsewhere? And when did he finish? Dave As far as I know, he is still in-post, until the end of term. I believe that he is moving into property developing. (He has also run a wedding car hire firm for a number of years.) George Richford was formerly Director of Music at Saint Mary's, Newark, Notts.

David Drinkell Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Dr. Stephen Tympany has been appointed Organist & Master of the Choristers at Armagh Cathedral (CofI), in succession to Theo Saunders. Stephen has been covering for some time while Theo was on sick leave. He has been a leading light in church music in Northern Ireland for many years and was for a long time in charge of the music at Banbridge Parish Church. This sounds to me to be a very good appointment.
DHM Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Kris Thomsett, currently Organ Scholar at Salisbury, to be Assistant DoM at Newcastle Cathedral. Formerly 6th form Organ Scholar at King's, Rochester (and an excellent Alto in the Cathedral Voluntary Choir), then Chelmsford (gap-year) and Norwich (UEA).

DaveHarries Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 A quick heads-up: the music list on the website of Exeter Cathedral says that tomorrow (10th January) at 4pm will be the installation of Tim Noon as the new DoM. The music list for this service reads: Responses: Bernard Rose Hymns: 57, 48 (NEH) Psalm: 46 Canticles: Herbert Brewer in D Anthem: There shall a star (Mendelssohn) Voluntary: Final (Symphonie I) - Vierne The service sounds like it may be a fairly full house as it also includes the installation of the new headmaster of the Cathedral School and new choristers. I would probably go if I didn't live in Bristol as I have never heard either Brewer's Canticles or the anthem by Mendelssohn. Dave
