DaveHarries
One from Germany for anyone interested although it seems, from the source of information, that the appointment won't take effect for about another 13 months. Alexander Niehues, presently Kapellmeister (master of the (chapel) choir) of St. Lambertus, Dusselforf since November 2020, is to take up the same post at Cologne Cathedral effective from 01st September 2025. He has previously held posts in Mainz, Freiburg and Mannheim before taking up the role at Dusseldorf. Herr Niehues, who is in his early 40s, succeeds Prof. Eberhard Metternich who will resign the role of Kapellmeister role at Cologne Cathedral after nearly 40 years in post. The news release is here although you may need to use Google Translate to put it into English if your browser doesn't do it automatically. https://www.koelner-dommusik.de/choere/ab-01-09-2025-alexander-niehues-40-wird-neuer-domkapellmeister-an-der-hohen-domkirche-zu-koeln HTIOI, Dave

Have a listen to the Jonathan Dove piece at the beginning of the Truro recital on JO's website - very exciting! Exciting times at St Paul's with not just a new organist team but the start of the new girls' choir coming up in a year's time. Looking ahead a bit, there are some anniveraries to celebrate at St Paul's soon. 2027 will mark 50 years since the completion of the Mander rebuild with the Royal Trumpets, new dome chorus, North Choir division etc. 2030 will mark 100 years since the Trompette Militaire was installed in 1930, and 70 years since the Contra Bombarde was put in in 1960. It would be tremendous to see them commission some new organ music to celebrate these milestones.
David Cynan Jones
Jack Oades, currently Tenor Lay Vicar at Exeter Cathedral but has help organist posts at Croydon Minster and Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin has been appointed Organist at St Giles Cathedral Edinburgh to succeed Michael Harris. He announced the appointment on his facebook page. Thrilled to share that I’ve been appointed as Organist and Master of the Music at St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh, starting in January. I first visited the cathedral in 2010 (thanks to Fiona!) and when I saw the amazing Rieger organ, I decided I had to take up the instrument myself, and here we are! Thanks to Timothy, James, Tom & Dermot for their support with my application. This does mean that, sadly, I’ll be leaving Exeter Cathedral. I’ve had a wonderful time here with this brilliant choir, and I cannot recommend the Tenor Lay Vicar position highly enough - job description here: https://www.exeter-cathedral.org.uk/.../Tenor-Lay-Vicar... Share it with anyone who might be interested - the start date is flexible, and there’s loads of extra singing/conducting work in the area.
