Vox Humana Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I have just stumbled across this, which might perhaps be of interest. Don't expect any organ music though (there's a real musician for you!)
Colin Pykett Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Thank you, Vox Humana, for posting this. I also know of two later broadcasts dealing with his life. One was in late summer 1979, coinciding with the publication of Jonathan Rennert's biography. The other was on 18 June 1996 to mark the centenary of his birth (R2, 9 pm), entitled 'Thalben Ball: Titan of the organ'. I had recordings of both on audio cassette but sadly these have long since become unplayable owing to 'binder ooze'. There does not seem to be any mention of either programme on BBC radio iPlayer, though I am probably not an expert in making this work to its best advantage. CEP
wolsey Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 GTB's appearance on Desert Island Discs is indeed in the BBC's programme archive and available (as is every broadcast in the series) on iPlayer. The Radio Times archive is a priceless resource. A search under Thalben-Ball gives the this.
