Rowland Wateridge 0
I have just learned the sad news that Ronald Woan died this morning. He was Director of Music at Liverpool Cathedral from 1948 until his retirement in 1982. As a boy he had been a chorister at the Cathedral under Harry Goss-Custard, and will be remembered by many for the long partnership with Noel Rawsthorne as Organist who died in January this year, thus surviving him only by a little more than two months. In fact, his long tenure included working with Goss-Custard, Noel Rawsthorne and Ian Tracey.
Adnosad 0
Heard of his passing whilst attending the recital on BHM. A very long successful tenure which for the most part involved a team of two ! Have to say that I am still rather puzzled as to why a boy, who went on later in life to become very successful in the musical world as a singer/performer failed his audition to be admitted to the choir ? There is an interesting ( for those interested that is! ) picture of this local boy attending the cathedral in Joe Rileys book entitled " Todays Cathedral ".

Is this a reference to the composer of the Liverpool Oratorio?
