Nocturne for an Orange

Recommended Posts

There seem to be a few recordings floating around of Porter Heaps' 'Nocturne for an Orange' but I can't find a copy of the sheet music anywhere online.

Does anybody have a copy they'd be willing to scan and send or know where I might be able to source one, please?

Many thanks.

What a fascinating piece. I've never come across it before, nor Porter Heaps, for that matter. Given that the organist James Welch is from Palo Alto, where Heaps lived in his retirement, it is entirely possible the piece has never been published, and Welch was given a copy personally by the composer.

Hi

Somewhere in my music collection I have an organ duet (2 organs) arrangement of something (possibly Battle Hymn of the Republic) by Porter Heaps.  I've never played it - can't remember now why I bought it many years ago.

Every Blessing

A good party-piece. I've seen a similar thing on a viola (the orange being in the left hand of course, the viola held like a viol). It was slightly more subtle because instead of holding the fruit up at the beginning, the player said nothing, and the audience gradually started tittering as they noticed one by one.
