Henry Fairs is Head of Organ Studies at Birmingham Conservatoire and

Organist to the University of Birmingham. He was a prize-winner in a number

of international organ competitions including Paris, St Albans and Chartres.

Since winning First Prize and Special Prize at the Odense International

Organ Competition (Denmark), his concert career has taken him to the

major European centres of organ music and to America, performing solo

recitals, broadcasts (BBC, BR, MDR, Danish Radio) and concertos on both

historic and modern instruments (including Merseburger Orgeltage, Chartres

Cathedral, St Albans International Organ Festival, Internationale Orgelwoche,

Nuremberg, Leipzig Gewandhaus, St Paul's Cathedral Celebrity Series,

Born in Hereford (England), he received his earliest musical training as a

chorister at Leominster Priory and studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire,

where he graduated with First Class Honours and was a prize-winner at the

Fellowship diploma of the Royal College of Organists. A scholarship from

the Countess of Munster Trust enabled postgraduate studies in Paris,

Cologne and Vienna. Important teachers and influences have included

David Saint, Susan Landale, Thierry Mechler, David Sanger and Michael

    Radulescu.

Henry is regularly invited to give guest lectures and masterclasses:

recently as a guest tutor and jury member at the Carl Nielsen International

Festival and Competition, Denmark, Eastman School (USA), Three Choirs

and performance of the organ works in 15 concerts throughout Europe. In

addition, he has in recent years been occupied with the performance of

19th and 20th century music; including complete performances of organ

music by: Jehan Alain (2011), Liszt (the three great works -2011) and

Reubke, Olivier Messiaen (2008) and Maurice Duruflé ( Naxos 8.557924)

Anne Page is known in the UK and abroad as a musician who combines virtuosity and
versatility. Born and educated in Perth, Australia, she moved to Europe to continue
advanced studies with Marie-Claire Alain, Peter Hurford and Jacques van Oortmerssen.
She made her London debut playing 20th century repertoire at the Royal Festival Hall.
Her career encompasses performances and broadcasts in Europe, the USA and Australia.
In the pioneering spirit of her country of origin she likes to explore some of the less well
trodden musical paths and has been one of a handful of musicians at the forefront of the
revival of the harmonium, making critically-acclaimed recordings and establishing a
course on the instrument at the Royal Academy of Music. In 2008 she was featured in a
Purcell Room recital for solo harmonium and the Swiss organist and composer Lionel
Rogg has written a suite of pieces for harmonium for her.
As a member of the British Institute of Organ Studies she took a leading role in the development of the
Historic Organ Sound Archive. This innovative scheme combined community education with a permanent
free online archive to increase access to our organ heritage. Anne researched and recorded 10 hours of
    music for the project.
Now based in Cambridge, she directed the Cambridge Summer Recitals for eight years, presenting
many world and UK first performances and bringing several major recitalists from Europe to Britain
for the first time. During 2011/12 she performed the complete organ works of Bach in 23 recitals on
14 different organs in Cambridge. The series attracted capacity audiences and helped to support the
educational work of the Cambridge Academy of Organ Studies of which Anne is a founder.

he works with the Cathedral Choir in its six choral services per week and also
accompanies the Choir in broadcasts, tours and recordings on the Cathedral's
    famous Father Willis organ.
He grew-up in Gloucester and became the Cathedral Organ Scholar aged 17,
studying with David Briggs. Subsequent posts were held at Bristol Cathedral,
St Mary's Church, Warwick and Clifton College. In Truro Luke also directs St
Mary's Singers and Orchestra with whom he has programmed a diverse
repertoire of works from Stravinsky's Dumbarton Oaks to Copland's Old
American Songs. The choir recently performed Bach's St Matthew Passion in
    a liturgical context.
He works regularly as organ and piano accompanist, most recently with Julia
Hwang (BBC4 Lark Ascending) and Grace Davidson (in Handel's Gloria). Luke

and active across the UK. He has played additionally in mainland Europe and the

USA, undertaking two tours to the latter encompassing the East Coast and Mid West

in 2013. Tom's debut CD, featuring music by Bliss, Elgar and Malcolm Williamson

recently was released on the Regent label, and was described by one reviewer as

"...a marvellous recording, full of light, from a charismatic and virtuosic musician"

(Organists' Review). His performance on the same disc of Williamson's unjustly

neglected Symphony for Organ was described in American Record Guide as

"brilliant". Tom's playing has been heard on the radio in the UK, Europe and the

United States, including (from the Temple Church in London) a live solo recital on

Dutch Radio 4 as part of their Handel Day, 2009. Highlights in 2014 include the

release of a double CD of contemporary music, the formation of a duo with organist

Richard Brasier, and his debut at the Royal Festival Hall, London as a featured artist

in the Pull Out All The Stops festival. Tom will give two concerts at the RFH, both to

be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and featuring first performances of works by Neil

    Hannon and Shlomo.
Tom teaches in a freelance capacity for the Royal College of Organists, and also
on courses run by the Royal School of Church Music and Oundle for Organists,
for whom he will direct a course in 2014. He is organ tutor both at Sevenoaks
School and the Royal Hospital School in Suffolk, and regularly gives masterclasses
(recently Birmingham Conservatoire and the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia). A
passion for education and outreach has led to involvement with many different
schemes, and he is organist to the long-running Organworks project, based at
Eton. Tom is Artistic Director to the London Organ Day, a trustee of the ON Organ
Fund, and serves as Organist and Choir Master at St Michael's Church, Chester
Square in central London. He also writes occasionally, and his work has been
published in BBC Music Magazine, Organists' Review and others.

Tom studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Kevin Bowyer, also
travelling to Amsterdam to see Jacques van Oortmerssen on an occasional basis.
His repertoire is broad but he harbours a particular love of new music, something
which has led him to premiere many pieces in the last few years. Besides tea
drinking he likes fell walking, good beer and (most of all) steam locomotives.

  19. We have just heard the news that Jennifer Bate will be interviewed live on Radio 3's 'In Tune' this afternoon (Wednesday) between 5:20 and 5:40. We don't have much other information at the moment but "watch this space."

There seems to be more 'organist awareness' on the radio at the moment which can only help our cause.

Jennifer Bate is in the top rank of international organists and has long been a favourite at all the world’s

great festivals. Many composers have written for her, inspired by her phenomenal technique and ability

to bring out the colours of the organ. In 1990, Jennifer’s artistry and outstanding contribution to music

received international recognition with the Personnalité de l’Année award by the French-based jury.

She was only the third British artist to achieve this distinction, after Sir Georg Solti and Sir (later Lord)

Yehudi Menuhin. In 1996, Jennifer was granted Honorary Citizenship of the Italian province of

Alessandria for her services to music in Northern Italy over 20 years. In 2002, she was elected a Fellow

of the Royal Society of Arts, in 2007 she received an Honorary Doctorate in Music from the University

of Bristol and in 2008 she was awarded an OBE in The Queen’s Birthday Honours List. In April 2011,

the French Minister of Culture made her an Officier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres. In July 2011,

President Sarkozy appointed her to the rank of Chevalier in the Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur,

    France’s highest order.

Jennifer is recognised as the world authority on the organ works of Olivier Messiaen, with whom she
worked extensively. Her world première recording of his last masterpiece for organ, Livre du
Saint Sacrement, won a Grand Prix du Disque. In 1995, Jennifer opened the Messiaen
Festival at l’Eglise de la Sainte Trinité, Paris, where his complete organ works were performed and
recorded. Among numerous awards for her CD, were the Diapason d’Or and Preis der
    Deutsche Schallplattenkritik.
Regis Records reissued the complete works of Franck and Messiaen and her historic
anthology, From Stanley to Wesley, in budget boxed sets. All were awarded the Penguin
CD Guide’s “Top Recommendation”. Her CD of recently-discovered works by Samuel
Wesley and its sequel, The Wesleys and their Contemporaries (both recorded from
first editions, on an historic organ), received great critical acclaim, as did her 5-CD
set of The Complete Organ Works of Felix Mendelssohn. More recently, Naxos
released The Complete Organ Works of Peter Dickinson. Please visit Jennifer’s
web page: www.classical-artists.com/jbate for further information.
Jennifer gives master-classes worldwide (including Oxford and Cambridge Universities),
lectures on a wide range of musical subjects and particularly enjoys working with young
people. Her pioneering education programme – A Guide to the King of Instruments -
which she delivers in any of five languages, is in great demand for all age groups. She
will open the first series of recitals on the refurbished organ in the Royal Festival Hall on
    29 September 2014.
