The drone footage shows the stone vaulting has held but the fire has consumed the entire roof. Another photo I have seen on social media is from around 15mins ago, the nave of the cathedral and furnishings still intact with fire fighters inside.
Vespers from this evening.

"In succession to Joseph McHardy (appointed Director of Music of the Chapel Royal) we seek for September 2017 (or January 2018 for the right candidate), a well-qualified and enthusiastic graduate to join a successful, collegiate department."

I'm just waiting for the howls of protest when people realise there is no solo organ music at the proms this year.

It is definitely a 'bore of organists'.

I have to confess that my motives in all of this are purely selfish. We have just finished restoring out house (an old pub) and are about to set our eyes towards the ex-skittle alley - a very large room with plenty of height. As we have blown much of our new organ budget on restoring the wonderful ex-pub, we are looking for a stop-gap organ - something like a Walker extension organ which will keep us going for the medium term. I am kicking myself as we had one particular Walker available in Rochester which I dismissed, which was really rather fine, with only three ranks, but exceedingly well-voiced (including unusually, a tapered Principal). They all seem to have been well-built and often go on for ever. If anyone knows of any small extension organs that need a decent home, can you please PM me and let me know any details. The IBO site doesn't have much in the way of these kind of instruments - apart from one large extension job.

Christ Church Bacup is due to close soon, they have a small Walker extension organ. It may be worth a shot?

I see that this organ has been removed from the IBO list - any news on where it has gone?
The church was open for the final time on Sunday 16th January, and I played it then. It was a very emotional time for the parishoners to hear the organ for the final time. I believe it is going to a church in Gloucestershire.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. I will have to find out what - if any - the budget is. It's good to know there are some options with little delay.
JJK
Is there a 'budget' system available or anything less expensive?
We need one at a church where I'm DOM, as the console is in a loft and viewing the conductor is not easy. We did have an old black and white CCTV system but the previous organist (an odd chap apparently) ripped all the wires out and smashed the cameras.

SFX church was rewired recently and the blower was never re-connected. Aside to that, I believe some of the pipework is in storage. The church know what a great organ they have, and do have plans to bring it back to life in the future.

HiIf you look at the survey date, the organ was playable in 1990 - nearly 20 years ago!

I hope to get in to inspect the instrument over half term - will report back.

Any news?

I used to play it regularly - each time I went bellringing there. Quite enjoyable to play
It used to be quite playable but recently I think the damp has got to it and there are many cyphers. The blower etc. is still connected.

I have just had a look at the details of this organ and could, possibly find a home for it tomorrow as I have spent the last year looking for a suitable redundant instrument for a largish church in this area. It has to be tracker action, of good tonal quality and be a large two or smallish three manual. I was brought up with an Isaac Abbott organ in Halifax and they are always good tonally. Surprisingly, there seems to be very little in the way of largish tracker action organs in need of good homes. If this organ does need a home please let me know. Rob. -
Morning,
After much searching, I have found it now.

Morning,
Can anyone help me track down a published score of "Estampie" from the "Robertsbridge Codex" please?
Grateful for your help

Presumably the church will have had insurances? If this is the case, then why would they not have another ppe organ - albeit, probably, smaller.
David Wyld
Church fully insured. The organ was not great but still an awful thing to happen to the church. I was organist here for six months 2003-04.
My spies tell me that is was probably an electrical fire starting in the roof loft, possibly caused by the
lighting getting very hot due to the roof cavity being used for storage.

Hello, does anyone have easy access to back issues of the Musical Opinion who wouldn't mind looking something up for me?
I'm looking for an article for an another essay I'm writing:
Hesford, Bryan
"Towards Understanding Erik Satie's 'Messe des Pauvres'"
Musical Opinion, 3/82
Many thanks

Many thanks to everyone who helped. I handed my work in yesterday and hopefully it will go down well.
The title was:
An investigation into Les Cloches de Hinckley, its story and the key to understanding the background to the piece.
Thanks again

That would indeed be useful, but I would imagine that access would be possible only from computers on subscribing institution's local area network.
I can access Birmingham Conservatoire's subscriptions to journals from home by logging in and downloading a cookie, the RCO could perhaps do that?

Sorry to bore everyone again but has anyone heard of an organist called Paul Rochard? He was around in the 1920s and wrote at least two articles for the Musical Times.
What I'd really like to know is where he was organist in the years 1924-1925? - Its for my dissertation which I'm still writing.
Below are the articles he wrote, if anyone has a copy they can scan and email me I'd be very grateful.
Best wishes

Good Evening, I'm doing some research for my dissertation and would like to find some articles from organ related journals. Unfortunately does not seem to be an index for:
1. The Organists Review
2. The Organ
3. Choir and Organ
This is a great shame, a lot of excellent articles are lost in the depths and can't be found without a lot of searching.
Am I wrong? If you know of an index then please let me know
Best wishes

Played it and it is good. They've even cut a hole in the wall of the North Choir to let some more sound out.

It doesn't matter who is going to build the new RCO organ, you can't beat a good Willis.
