  1. I had a request for this for a wedding many years ago - I failed to find an organ transcription

There's a Zadok transcription by Christopher Tambling in "Ten more pieces for Organ" form Kevin Mayhew (published 2008)

  2. Some excellent resources - thank you all, this was the kind of thing I was looking for and will be a great help in planning an itinerary. I have loose thoughts of October floating around in my head but nothing is settled yet. Hope everything doesn't dry up when the tourist season tails off!

This http://www.hetorgel.nl/eindex.html is the most complete calendar of organ concerts in Holland.

However, when you need more information or suggestions for your visit to Holland, please let me know.

  3. Here are two suggestions, depending on when you plan to travel.

Check out "open monument day" on 12th - 13th September

There will be about 4,000 different places open to visitors, free. Many towns include organ recitals and organ visits as part of this programme. In large cities, such as Amsterdam, you can walk from one church to another and hear many half-hour recitals. It's a wonderful idea, but would be even better if different cities celebrated "openmonumentendag" on different dates; one can't be in so many desirable places at the same time.

There's an Open Organ Day in the province of Friesland on September 12th:

  4. Quite often when I watch a Youtube clip (from this forum or elsewhere) it suddenly pauses and a rotating circle appears in the middle of the screen. Then it starts agin befoe embarking upon its previous eccentric behaviour. This does not happen all the time though. Is this a common problem? Can anything be done about it?

    Thanks

    Peter

You can download Speedbit Download Accelerator (free) from http://www.videoaccelerator.com/

  5. According to this, an 1892 Willis in almost original condition has been purchased for the Hooglandse Kerk in Leiden. The church already has an absolutely stunning organ by de Swart and Hagerbeer (restored, inevitably, by Flentrop).

Not Flentrop, it was Jürgen Ahrend.

  6. As some forum members are going to visit "exotic" places for the 1st time, and wanting to know what there is to see, I thought I had better ask too.

My partner has just bought a cheap deal to Lloret De Mar, and as my geography is not too good, I heard that Barcelona is just "down" the road. I have never been there before, so if anyone has any ideas, please bring them on

    Peter

OK, Barcelona is lovely. I've been there last year. Pictures at http://travel.webshots.com/album/562607740NJNvOI

You really must see the Sagrada Familia. The Cathedral and Santa Maria del Mar are also worth a visit, as is the Monasterio de Pedralbes.

Non-organ spots: Parc Guell, Poble Espagnol, Boqueria, Mont Juic.... Well, have a look at the pictures and choose what you would like to visit.

    Enjoy your trip!

  7. You should also try Content.. another dutch factory. Their organs are (in my taste) of better design, and of way superior sound quality. Just google Content Orgel or Content Organs and I'm sure you'll find something of use. The Johannus organs are a bit mellow in my taste, and generally do very bad in full organ..

    Cheers,

  8. It's surprising that composers in Holland would want to publish their music in a manner that can be only played by the few, and with magnifying glasses.

Let me tell you: most of my compositions are published by Klavarskribo, but always as the second publication. When the edition in the normal, usual notation has been published, it's some kind of a service to all Klavarskribo-players to allow Klavarskribo also to publish the music in their notation.

  9. Can anyone offer any help with a Norwegian company? Unlike a number of sites abroad, there is no English translation. I'm having considerable difficulty with Cantando.com over an album by Takle, which I would like a couple of pieces from. I know there are a number of British organists who play the man's music (Herrick's done a couple on various installments of Organ Fireworks), but a number of British distributors have had difficulties with them, and therefore won't deal with them.

    Ohhh, tha'ts extremely expensive...

    I ordered this one: http://webshop.cantando.com/exo_showDetail...=1&id=C2141

Actually I only enjoyed one or two of these 19 pieces.

  10. As for the Berveiller, I spoke with an owner of a CD company this summer, and he has held mechanical royalties for several YEARS in trust for a recording he made of the Mouvement, and has never been able to ascertain where or who to send them to....

Sadly, the same confusion is likely the reason that the piece remains unpublished - no one can seem to figure out who owns the rights(!)

    Here it is! http://www.hertog.nl/TradePoint/Item_View?itemNo=MG013

  11. How stupendously tasteless! I know that in nineteenth-century France, until Franmck improved things, tastes in church music were dire and that Boëly was sacked because his organ playing was too religious and not entertaining enough. Did Italy share these tastes then?

Actually I think this taste came from Italy to France!

Opera was the musical language in 19th century Italy, even for the musica sacra. Incredible - but true...

  12. This seems to be wonderfully bad music, and, according to modern tastes, entirely unsuitable for an organ mass, but it could be great fun. Has anyone heard any of his other music, and does anyone know if any of it or anything similar is still in print or obtainable otherwise?

Well, have a look at the organ works of Padre Davide da Bergamo, Vincenzo Petrali and Antonio Diana, for instance.
