  1. This from Southwell this morning https://www.facebook.com/SouthwellMinster/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE&fref=nf

We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Rector Chori - Paul Provost, currently Sub Organist at Guildford Cathedral.

Paul, who is married to Ruth and has a six-month old daughter, has worked with some of the country’s leading ensembles, and in Europe and the USA.

“We are very much looking forward to the move to Southwell, a place for which we have great affection,” said Paul. “I am in particular excited by the musical opportunities and possibilities for development, encouraged by the generosity and friendliness of all I have met so far.”

Dean Nicola Sullivan said: "I am delighted at Paul's appointment. He is a creative and skilful choir trainer with a strong sense of faith and vision for how musical excellence supports the mission and worshipping life of a Cathedral. He is keen to promote music more widely across the diocese and will build on the excellence of the Music Foundation already here."

The announcement was made today (Jan 29th) during the Patronal Festival Eucharist and Procession at the Minster.

Paul, who moves to Southwell after Easter, replaces Paul Hale who recently retired after 27 years as Rector Chori.

  2. Bradford Cathedral facebook page has this -

We are delighted to announce that the new Organist and Director of Music at Bradford Cathedral will be Alex Berry, currently Assistant Organist at Magdalen College, Oxford, and Tutor to the Choristers at Magdalen College School, Oxford.
He will be joining us in January 2017 to work with Jon Payne ( Assistant Director of Music). Jon has joined us this week and is looking forward to a busy but well planned term with the Cathedral Choir.
Alex Berry succeeded Alex Woodrow in 2008 as Organ Scholar at Guildford Cathedral, and has held posts since at Queens' College & Kings' Cambridge, Ely Cathedral and Magdalen Oxford).
We have appointed an exceptional musician of really distinguished calibre, who will be capable of inspiring the music department to the highest levels.
Alex Berry also takes over the mantle of being the youngest Cathedral Organist from Alex Woodrow. Excellent footsteps to follow
Also to be noted Alex and Jon will be replacing Alex and Jonathan!

Alex Woodrow has taken up an appointment as Head of Choral Music at Solihull School as of this term.

  3.

In this case, by the appointee himself.

The point I was attempting to make was that even though the appointee had posted - "Stunned and thrilled to have been appointed Assistant Director of Music at Gloucester Cathedral." he may have allowed his employers the opportunity to announce it to other employees of the establishment he was joining first and through the appropriate channels. Mr Hope's enthusiasm is to be applauded, but just another case in point about the perils of using social networking in the establishment.

  4. Auditions for DOM at the Free Chapel of St George at Windsor and the Assistant DOM at Ely are scheduled for May 2nd and 3rd. We should look for white smoke on the respective websites after the Bank holiday unless someone can enlighten the board from the social network

  5. Copied from The Bell - The Magazine of the Cathedral and Parish of Llandaff

    NEW ASSISTANT ORGANIST

Sachin Gunga, M.A., M.Mus., A.R.C.O., presently Senior Organ Scholar of Wells Cathedral, has been appointed as Assistant Organist (from 1st September) to succeed James Norrey, who is moving to a post at Newcastle Cathedral.

Prior to his current appointment Sachin had been Head Chorister and later bass at Derby Cathedral, bass Choral Scholar and later Organist at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and Organ Scholar at Truro Cathedral.

  6. Can we ask the BBC for a red organ stop in the top right hand corner to click on to in order to listen to the pre service music while the great and good join the congregation.?Thank goodness Huw wasn't on first mic and talked endlessly through the music.

  7. A batch of new Assistans have been appointed

George Castle from Worcester to be Assistant DOM in Winchester

Oliver Hancock from Ely to be Sub Organist at Portsmouth

James Norrey from Llandaff to be Assistant DOM at Newcastle

There is also an appointment imminent from Gloucester

  8. I think I'm correct in saying that James Norey was appointed as an acting Assistant Organist in the first instance while financial arrangements were being put in place to make the post permanent.
