  1. A few weeks after encountering a "Swell Unison Off" stop on an organ which has no octave or sub octave couplers, I'm still scratching my head as to a use for it...

The organ was of the bread-cooking variety I hasten to add...

It did have a very useful switch on the side marked 'off'. (Unfortunately that did have its usual partner!)

Paul it sends a signal to the pub ordering a red wine!!!!!

  2. Hi

Pleaselet NPOR know so that we can update the records. Interestingly, NPOR has no record for Stephenson, which probably means he wasn't in business prior to 1950. It's not a builder that I've come across.

    Every Blessing

    Tony

I have done Tony, NPOR gives a date I think around 1920.

    Hope your getting better

  3. Yesterday I was asked to play for a funeral service at this church, I had looked the details up on NPOR, its had been built by a builder who I've not heard of Stephenson of Birmingham. Has anyone heard of this builder?

I arrived at the church and looked for the organ, I was informed use the digital keyboard, on enquiring about the pipe organ the Minister pointed to the west wall and said its in a gallery up there, but weve had a false ceiling fitted. He took me into the gallery and what a mess this poor little organ was standing there covered in builders dust and rubble. I wonder how many other instruments have ended up like this?

  4. My church does not use the chalice but has refused to stop the hand shaking in the Peace or indeed the ritual handshake with the Priest when leaving. This has a far higher risk than using the chalice, we have the Bishop with us on Sunday it will be interesting to see what he does. I do wish there was some kind of conformity within the Church of England, is this too much to ask?

  5. Interesting point Ron, how clean are the glasses when we go to the pub? Should we just have crisps? Avoid any pork scratchings tho!!!!!!

Yes but presumably you didn't lick it (the spoon)?

  6. This is a very interesting topic, a few weeks ago I had a Wedding that only wanted cds played, they were informed by the Rector that they had to pay my fees in full and the video fee as it was deemed to be loss of income on my behalf. When they realised the cost they came back to the organ!!!! My contract is very clear over this matter.

  7. It means the rank stops at Tenor C and does not have its own bass, this is quite common on ranks such as Voix Celeste.

I sometimes see "TC" on specifications, especially on string stops, and once on a reed.

    What does this mean???

  8. Stephen Duckett is an accomplished organist and also Under Butler at the Palace, I believe he also arranges all the recitals there now. I am sure if you contact him he can tell you more about this instrument or you could contact Paul Carr a member of this board who has given several recitals on this instrument.

There was an extensive article on the Blenheim Palace organs in the February 2008 edition of Organists' Review by Stephen Duckett, whose e-mail signature describes him as "Under Butler to His Grace the Duke of Marlborough", though he seems to be an organist as well. Hope this might be helpful.

    Douglas.

  9. The piston setters were a common Willis idea. St Peter Wolverhampton had them from memory to the left of the player in a case. They were easy to use once mastered. Im sure David Wylde can give more examples.

I would urge people to go and hear Paul Carr play, Im sure he will show this instrument off to its best.

  10. He opened the new organ in St Marys Bridgnorth 2 weeks ago, I have heard he played brilliantly and held the congregation in their seats. Long may he continue to enthrall audiences.

  11. I have just telephoned The Organ and been told the company has been sold the next issue will be at the end of May. I am wondering whose bought the company and who will edit the magazine does anyone have any information on this? The web site has not been updated to show any new information.

  12. I have just driven past the URC church in Blackheath and have noticed it is up for sale, I have never been able to get into the church to see the organ and cannot find it on NPOR. All I know is that it is or was a small 3 manual formerly from a private residence, does anyone have details of this instrument? I fear it could well be another candidate for Ebay.

  13. It was still there about 15 years ago, complete with basketball ring on the case, if I remember correctly. Looked very un-used, the organ that is, not the basketball hoop!

Now now Paul I cant see you playing basketball, I came across a tuners book yesterday with a very young PCs writing in !!!!

Are we just covering state schools on this thread, the Royal School in Wolverhampton has a Walker in the Library and a 2 manual in the chapel but Im going back 25 years.
