    Unusual Organs

And if any of you want to visit - just email Daniel Roth and ask - he's a very pleasant and hospitable gent and very much the master of the S-S instrument! AJJ
  2. It's in the Dover publication - French Noels for Organ - 'bought the book last year - lots of good stuff and cheapish. AJJ
  3. The Danish system is highly efficient also. AJJ
  4. Tenbury from 1970 was quite interesting tonight - quite dated in some ways - what's the general opinion? AJJ
  5. Looking at recent 'joinings' to this list I see that their Administrator is now a member - this is good - maybe she's taking note. AJJ
  6. Do you mean the 1911 Harrison incarnation? - I heard that once but it was very much on it's last legs - it sounded a lot like other 1911 Harrisons - but I am biased as that is not a sound I like very much! AJJ
  7. As a professional teacher with graduate and postgraduate Music and Education qualifications (and as part of my job required to continue with professional development) who has been involved with church music for more years than I can remember (latterly as organist within a group of country parishes) I tend to agree with the above! I also have no axe to grind - not being a RCO member - one of the possible 20,000 mentioned above but if I felt it would do me (yes this is important and not just selfish as DS seems to suggest) and therefore my parish work any good I would probably consider joining. It sounds however as if some of those runing the RCO might genuinely be trying to turn things around - lets hope they succeed but maybe a little listening to those out and about might not go amiss in the process. New Cds

The only slight problem here was that when I loaded it onto iTunes it arrived next to a performance of the same piece from Sydney Town Hall played by David Drury - the juxtaposition of the two (excellent performances) was distinctly jarring on the brain especially when the whole thing starts up again on Harrison/Downes following vintage Hill if I forget to stop it! (I really quite like the piece - 'never really knew it till recently) AJJ
  10. Wells is fun - not much room in the loft - ladder and trap door - if you are page turning and forget you could end up falling through if you leave it open. AJJ PS St Albans has a vast space - I remember once about 4 or 5 of us all sitting round in arm chairs watching Peter Hurford Play for Choral Evensong.
  11. Bill Drake is a perfectionist and it shows - I've never come across an organ of his that isn't superb. One may not always want to play on the style of instrument he builds all of the time but the construction and 'musicality' can not be faulted. AJJ PS Mind you - has anyone else played the Aubertin at St Louis en L'Ile in Paris? - that is an amazing instrument.
  12. Seriously - this could also be the way to drum up more interest generally. Another option also perhaps - combined with a meal before hand at a local pub etc. for those who have come a distance and may need to get back that evening. AJJ
  13. Very tasteful - even I could be lured across two counties - how about 'Mander List' evenings - some next year especially spring to mind................! AJJ

Epstein did the statue - Pace the rest. AJJ

I may be wrong but I vaguely remember something about problems stemming from the case (George Pace) being listed in some way - does anyone know more about this? There was an article about the organ a few years ago with the Clutton scheme quoted etc. AJJ
  16. On one of the video clips on the S-S website Daniel Roth explains some of these aspects of the console. AJJ
  17. Go and visit too if you can - I did the other week and he was very hospitable. AJJ
  18. Thinking NT there's Stourhead too & the pub there does good food - but are you doing all the concerts at Romsey or planning to travel? AJJ
  19. Have a look at what Schoenstein has done in similar situations in the USA - your second choice sounds sensible though - with a Tromba Solo facility that does what you said but without having to draw UO etc. The Buzard organ company (also in the USA) does this frequently - and they have quite a nice website! AJJ
  20. Are there any other 'family memberships' on this forum I wonder? AJJ
  21. St Asaph Cathedral has one on the Great since the recent rebuild by Wood of Huddersfield - I suspect it is a Sesquialtera by another name though - 2 ranks - 12th & 17th. AJJ
  22. And the RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) - my wife belongs. AJJ
