  1. "I wonder if he has ever heard the great Schulze organ at St Bartholomew's, Armley?"

    (Quote)

    Yes, in Situ !

    (And I won't forget It....)

The members of the french forum ask for the Specifications of tha Edinburg organ.

    Do you have it ?

  2. "I hope we can appreciate the tonal quality for what it is; and Anglicised version of a German romantic organ."

This organ seems to be splendid, but it does not sound "german" to my ears. The reeds and the Mixtures

are undboubtly british. By the way, it is encouraging to note such an instrument has been restored !

  3. And hood it to keep out the flies and other debris.

...Not necessary, because this stop has to be "en chamade", even in 32',

    down to C.

As for the debris, it is common sense to open all doors and remove all windows

before drawing that stop; moreover, before adding it to the organ, it is the whole

building that must be complertely checked and reinforced, wherever necessary,

in order to be able to cope with a Richter level of at least 6.

  4. "the closest anyone has to a Vuvazela on an organ. "

    (Quote)

    .....For me, a neo-baroque, low-pressure rattling chamade.

You are right stating the Vuvuzela should always be drawn

(Like the Mixtures with many organists)

  5. Clearly Vuvuzelas appeal to the masses. Then let us seize the moment and have a Vuvuzela Chorus 16 8 4 on every organ. Have thousands at recitals!... Crowd control... black market in recital tcikets.....:lol:  :D

Brass resonators, horizontal of course; open, un-leathered shallots; low pressure with very thin

tongues; no tuning required, pitch and temperament undefined. Sole aim is to get the coarsest

possible noise with a maximum of rattle.

  6. "there is nothing in the existing organ repertoire which requires all those mutations or the registration tools, but to think of it in those terms is to miss the point entirely. "

    (Quote)

    Indeed !

I'll go a step further: to believe those things are pointless is to believe the history

ends with us. We know all. There will be no others composers for the organ, because

    we know there cannot be.

  7. "Incidentally, and slightly off topic, the welcome given to visiting choirs by the clergy and staff at Worcester is second to none and frankly puts many other cathedrals to shame. "

It was already so in the seventies. This, combined with the riches of this incredible historic building,

makes it a "great place" one never forgets.

  8. There is already the work of Vernon Butcher. As far as I know, the history

does not need to be re-written every time the fashion changes. Or it is then

an apology of the last one; the end of the history is always our feat....Up to

the next generation. Let us have a date in 30 years.

  9. By the way, for the gardeners: volcanic ash is the best fertilizer one can have.

All the soils that have received it, worldwide (save...In Iceland, for obvious

climatic reasons), are among the best for crop and gardens.
