Colin Harvey
For all those who like Dom Bedos's pictures of the inside of an organ, including a real organ blower pumping the organ, I just came across the following and I knew I had to whip it out to share with you all at once: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qccBF1beTmY&NR I must be honest, this is the sort of organ that makes me excited. There's also a lovely example of a real Spanish trumpet - very unlike many misguided attempts since 1950.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FB3IqXy48wo

I lived in Spain for a number of years and played a few of this kind of organ though I must say that the ones I came across were perilously tuned! The keys seemed to me then and look to me now on your video clips to be narrower than what we might be usd to here (UK) - who determines the standard? Anyway many thanks Colin. Vox Humana
Lovely! Thanks for posting these links. Anyone know how old the Castromocho organ is? Presumably it was built for improvising at since there is no music desk.
SomeChap
Re. Castromocho: not as old as it looks (or sounds) - 1821 according to http://www.organartmedia.com/Capillas-Intro.html (last paragraph). I'm not really sure how appropriate it is for Francis Chapelet to be playing/improvising what sounds like Cabanillles or Correa de Arauxo on a 19th century organ! (OK maybe I'm being a bit fussy - it certainly works!) What a fantastic little organ though! They really don't make them like that anymore! Is it just my ears, or has the sound been added later? At 50 secs, there's some ornamentation which I can't actually see being played. Or perhaps it's my eyes as well...........
