David Coram
We found a couple of organs boasting a "Tacet" stop in the course of the Dutch organ tour the other week. It is thought they were provided to maintain symmetry. Or an organbuilder really, really, really, really wanting to include a stop, but being told they don't want it. There are other ways around this. I heard of one French builder who as well as leaving a "prepared for" hole on the soundboard, did the same - a hole - at the console. "What goes there?" quoth the customer. "Oh, it's prepared for." "What will it sound like?" "Well, the pipes are just there, in that box. Would you like to hear it?" "Ooh, yes please!" Of course the money magically appeared after that.
curate
I presume no-one here has ever tried playing the Fuchtschwantz?
