sbarber49
Does anyone know anything more about this? It may be old news.
Hebridean
My fault I am sure, but what’s the question? Huddersfield???
pwhodges
This, I presume: https://slippedisc.com/2023/09/uk-university-gets-rid-of-its-organ/ In that report I note also a possibility that the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival may be in jeopardy - my son has often played there... peter ellis
I commented on Lebrecht’s article on X (formerly twitter). It mentioned no organ to be left at Huddersfield but surely there is the one at St. Paul’s Hall. There are town centre organs too - Parish Church for example. S_L
In the town there is the Skrabi at St. Patrick's RC! And, of course, the Town Hall Willis. I also wonder what happened to the small two manual extension organs that Philip Wood built, for the music department, in the early 1970's. Two of them were two rank and the third had a Dulzian extended all over the place. They were ,for some things, terrible, but they sorted your technique out and were ideal for practice. Phoneuma
I'd be pretty wary of Lebrecht, he isn't really regarded as very accurate in his reporting. However, there are other organs there, not least the St Paul's Wood organ. I believe there has been a dwindling number of student organists over the years. I'm sure his comments regarding the HCMF are not realiable although it has been scaled back somewhat since Covid.
