  1. St Paul's today! - excellent also. A
  2. Peter King does a marvellous job with the choirs and Marcus Sealy is one of the best liturgical organists in this neck of the woods as well as being an acomplished recitalist. They also have a very efficient 'outreach' programme in local schools and a hugely supportive set of parents and friends. A
  3. There is an interesting bit in the latest BIOS Reporter where the Casework officer states that this is one of the 'worst instances' he has encountered - he goes on to talk about a '60s style electrification' and that the organ has been 'comprehensively divested of it's character and originality.' It seems as if responsible people have been involved but all the same........Has anyone seen/heard/played it yet? A
  4. Very nice - I really must 'do' the Brittany Dallams next time we are up that way in Fr. A
  5. A bit 'further over' but Eastern European still - does anyone play anything by this composer? A
  6. I have just taken posession of PRCD 1042 . Richard Lea playing nothing much of which I had previously encountered (on the organ at any rate) on the iconic Walker at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. Superb playing, amazing sounds and at least two pieces that I am now after copies of. Get it direct from Priory at £9.99 + p/p - its a bargain! Maybe not for the purists (no G compass here) but my journey home from work today was nicely filled and the car speakers much exercised. A
  7. It was working fine about 10 years ago. A
  8. And over here, from an earlier manifestation of the company is this - there is a CD available played by Francis Jackson. The church is well worth a visit too. A
  9. is good for a miserable Sunday afternoon! A
  10. 'pcnd' and/or 'Hecklephone' on here are likely to know the instrument. A
  11. A the other end of the scale....as a student I used to play this regularly - it is still one of my favourite instruments. A cool acoustic and some lovely stops - you could spend half a day on it and not get tired of the sounds. A
  12. And this is an amazing recording too - the organ has to be heard to be believed! A
  13. I've seen French players of 'note' (Isoir etc.) do similar things when the need arises - also doubling the bass line to add gravitas when appropriate in Grands Jeux movements. It seems to me a little like the use of notes inegales - when pressed for a hard and fast rule most authorities who actually play the repertoire seem just to shrug and say do whatever whenever as long as the basic conventions are kept in mind and the music sounds musical! A
  14. I played his 'I SAW 3 SHIPS' after our carols this year. Available here. A
  15. The spec. has appeared somewhere recently on a Rieger advert in one of the journals. A
  16. St Peter's Stourton - Wilts. @ 6.30 on Christmas Eve Pre - Noels by Dandrieu etc. Once in..... In the BMW - (not the Darke one) Each Winter As the Year Grows Older - Gay arr. Haughan Christ Be Our Light - Farrell Hark the H..... O Little Town - Walford Davies Sussex Carol Es ist Ein Rose - Praetorius Away in... Responsorial Psalm 96 - Pulkingham (with handbells!) Joy To The World (arranged with nice string interludes etc.) Angels from the Realms.... O Come All Ye...... Post - Toccata on 'I Saw Three Ships' - Richard Elliott Something here for everyone - they've even tuned the organ - and the place will be packed! A

    New CD

Mostly these days (cost!) for specific repertoire OR a specific instrument - I have long given up buying on a whim or collecting the sorts of CDs you find at church/cathedral bookstalls - I have enough Widors, D Minors etc. already! As an example - 'have just ordered the Peeters CD above and the last CD I got was of new organ music from Canada. A bit picky perhaps but we are running out of shelves under the stairs! A

    New CD

This looks good - very fine sounding organ and player with a good balance of music. One doesn't here much FP these days - I must dig out some of my copies. (Via facebook one can get a ca 15 minute video of organist & producer discussing the instrument and repertoire - I couldn't get it onto here - sorry!) A
  20. Now hopefully on it's way from the USA - thanks for any replies. A
  21. If anyone has a copy of piece please could they get in touch. Thanks A
