  1. If anyone ever said that to me there'd be major trouble!!! A
  2. But........can anyone top this excellenty 'current' piece of Mander-Discussion-type research (I won't repeat what my wife said when she heard about what was going on here at 9.02 last pm!!) and put a name to the music on the console? A
  3. This possibly?.....although the Kern website says it was a restoration. The case in the film looked newer and more Germanic whereas the spec. suggests a more French type instrument - there are people on here who will know better though. Wiki. says there is a Protestant and Catholic church in the town - I suspect that this is the organ in the Catholic church whereas JKR was at the Protestant I think. Isn't this decidedly geeky!!!! A
  4. I believe too that this comes under the auspices of Worksop Priory where Michael Overbury is in charge of music. A
  5. Wow - thanks for these - and the EH ones too! A
  6. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about organs in NT properties - do they have an 'attached' organ expert etc. or has anyone compiled a list/catalogued etc.? A
  7. The route to the (west gallery) organ at Bourges Cathedral in central France involves quite an interesting wander through semi unprotected triforia walk ways 'Well worth it though - view wise and organ wise. A
  8. Try a quick trip to the Drama department store room at school - I'm sure you'll find what you need! A PS - Something here to play when you get there. http://www.youtube.com/redirect?q=http%3A%...UAxMzEwNzM3MTIx
  9. 'Interesting to hear of first hand experience of this organ - but what is a BIOS type please? A
  10. 'Agree totally - although there are certainly a few builders who would do anything you wanted to the instrument in the name of improvement One only has to compare the work of our hosts along with, for example, the instrument played by the author of the above with some of the jobs around with massive 'wandering' consoles, thousands of pistons, over extended reed ranks in the centre of which hides a perfectly respectable Victorian two decker to see that the former are far better than the latter from every point of view. Integrity of design, 'honesty' as to where everything comes from (derivation- wise) and above all musicality. A
  11. This appears to be what they are getting/have got. A
  12. This sounds as if it could be a child protection issue......! A
  13. Maybe I'll try the idea out on some of them tomorrow at work! A

    Lancaster

This looks a little more healthy than the present state of affairs. More here. A
  15. Wells Cathedral shop - today - all was well for CD browsing etc. - Mrs AJ and daughters finishing lunch on the green - when one of the operatives put on a CD of 'folksified' hymns. Alleluia, Song to Jesus came on as an upbeat Jig in 6/8 with each line starting on the second quaver of the bar! 'Fiddle' obligato and up beat backing were included and it was sung by a lady who could just have stopped off en route from one of the outpost fields of the Glastonbury Festival - certainly not the main stage - it was not Beyonce! The whole effect was ghastly - I really do wonder why someone would actually want to wreck a perfectly good hymn in this way and why those on duty in the shop would think that anyone would want to listen to it. A
  16. I played it a few years ago and VH is right - it sounds good at the console and also 'plays well'. My only problem with it is purely personal in that I would not want to play on it week in week out - 'repertoire wise' I need more of what it doesn't have! A
  17. Gerald Near - possibly. A
  18. Don't worry - the next 'level' will be half termly computer entries - the results of which get sent to parents - with staff emails attached for response. (OFSTED are not keen on this though!) Have fun!! A
