father-willis
Apologies if there is a thread concerning organs in the media, I thought there was but a quick search did not find it. However, I have been doing a bit of "Call the Midwife" binge watching lately and have just reached the 2018 Christmas Special. At the Mother House the sisters gather in a church to vote for a new Superior. They sit in choir stalls and on the north side is a rather impressive front of stencilled pipes. Does anyone know where this is?

peter ellis Posted Tuesday at 08:25 Share Posted Tuesday at 08:25 Doesn't even come up on a google image search - truthfully looks a bit disproportionate - almost CGI
S_L Posted Tuesday at 13:39 Share Posted Tuesday at 13:39 I've been there. The windows behind the altar give it away - and the reredos. Low church - only two candlesticks on the altar! ............... but I can't think where it is!!!!
father-willis Posted Tuesday at 15:05 Author Share Posted Tuesday at 15:05 That's the place. Quite anglo-catholic, at least at one time. Anyone want to play, "Guess the Builder" until we nail it? My guess: Gray & Davison. (It reminds me of Hereford Cathedral)

PaulH Posted Wednesday at 07:24 Share Posted Wednesday at 07:24 Google Image Search came up trumps! The trick was to crop the Christmas tree out of the image. Christ Church, Longcross. - https://npor.org.uk/survey/N13800 This is what Google led me to - http://www.photoeyes.biz/church/longcross.htm Looks like the organ was removed in 2018. I tried that. 'The trick was' . . . NOT to crop the altar, too. Doh !
pwhodges Posted Wednesday at 21:25 Share Posted Wednesday at 21:25 I tried it both ways and failed; I also tried just the reredos, but Google then decided I only wanted crosses... Paul
father-willis Posted yesterday at 06:33 Author Share Posted yesterday at 06:33 Thank you all for your efforts in finding this instrument. What a shame that such a lovely church has closed, been converted into flats and the organ gone; but at least it has been saved. We have here in Grahamstown/Makhanda (SouthAfrica) a very similar Bevington which is lovely albeit that it has, in very recent times, been tuned to Young's temperament!
