  1. Hi all, Just to say that I have made a few updates to my Church Organ fotopic site this morning. In order to make it as clear as possible as to which organ is being referred to, I have written in the NPOR reference numbers for the instruments within the UK that are on the site. I thought that this might also be of use for anyone who was itnerested as to the specifications of the instruments in question. Dave
  2. Hello Paul. You building organs nowadays as well as playing them (as at Christ Church, Cheltenham a few years ago)? Dave
  3. Hi Vox, I believe I am right in thinking that the rail service between Cardiff Central and Ebbw Vale calls at Llanhilleth, from which Abertillery is not too far away. There you go: you now have an incentive to fix something up..... Dave
  4. The only piece I ever heard by B.F was "And if a grain (of wheat shall fall)" which I quite like. Didn't know she did Psalm 139 as well. Dave
  5. I don't notice any reply to this so I will write one myself. This is indeed correct as can be seen from the website of the company in question, which is Harrison & Harrison. Follow this link and scroll down a bit. It seems he may well take over running the firm at some point in the future: http://www.harrison-organs.co.uk/mark.html Dave
  6. 3 manual Makin electronic. Dave
  7. I did go. And very good it was too. Introit: Eastern Monarchs, sages three [Paul Edwads] Setting: Wood in D Hymns: 336, 392, 52, 413, 427, 394 Psalm: 46 Choir Anthem: There shall a star from Jacob come forth [Mendelssohn] Organ Voluntary: Fantasia and Fugue on BACH [Liszt] [played by Claire Alsop] Organists: Graham Alsop, Claire Alsop Master of the Choristers: Andrew Kirk Preacher: Revd. Dr. Simon Taylor Hymns 413 & 427 (the latter opening with a Fanfare) were sung during a procession of congregation, choir and clergy around the church. From a congregation that was, by my estimation, around 90 - 100 people, only about 5 stayed in their seats. The procession ended by the organ console where choir and congregation assembled in the North transept. After the end of Hymn 427 prayers were said and the organ was blessed. After the playing of the Liszt by Claire Alsop - which was met with applause from the congregation and choir - the organ was turned off by Moira Benson, widdow of Garth Benson who was a previous organist of the church. She said: "We've made a deal. I have turned it off and I will turn it back on in 2010!" A good and well-attended service. Dave
  8. Sounds good to me: I'm going. Dave
  9. GOOD NEWS!!!!! An email from a bus enthusiast group advised that Fotopic was back up and working as of around 10:25am UK Time. I have checked and I am thereby pleased to announce, with huge relief, that my Church Organ photos are now back online as are my other photos as well. Addresses remain as they were. Dave
  10. Yes I have heard this as well via. a bus enthusiast group of which I am a moderator. It is at the end of a firm called Kingston Communications but nothing on their website about that. I started wondering what was going down when I tried to access the upload system to add a bus photo on and then I started getting emails saying it was gone. But this was what I was sent on the bus enthusiast group: "Update : "Fotopic.net was taken over by a company called Snappy Designs Ltd in May 2008 owned by ANY-Web Group, it is offline today due to a technical fault at Kingston Communications and I've been told by Snappy that it will be back sometime tonight (Friday). No statement has been issued by Fotopic.net. Directors have told me the company is solvent and this isn't related to it at all - I'd suggest you wait for the site to come back then I'm sure an official statement will be forthcoming." If the site comes back then I will start singing "Yippee I I yippee yippee I" to something like the tune of "She'll be coming round the mountain". Dave
  11. Thanks. The other annyoyance is that, as a bus enthusiast, I also had a large online collection of bus photos on another site. There were over 500 photos on that and I scored 32000+ hits last year making 68000+ during the life of the site. I had quite a few of the photos on the bus front backed up on my PC but there were quite a few lost where I delted the photos to make way for more on the camera card (and there was also one camera that got pinched but was replaced with a cheaper one which turned out to be better!) but I still reckon I have lost as much as 35% - 50% of my bus photos to the history books. I will find some way of getting some of the photos back online and will post a message when this has been done. But it is a terrible cheese. Thanks again for your message. Good wishes and Happy New Year, Dave
  12. Hi all, Have just found that I can not access my Fotopic site. Further to that it has gone round on a transport enthusiast group here in England that fotopic has gone BUST. So, with much regret, I hereby inform you all that my short-lived site containing photos of Church Organs - previously at http://churchorgans.fotopic.net - is no more. I hope to reconstitute something similar on another site and I will post any info on that in due course. I am gutted, and quite (........) off. Dave
  13. I am also prepared to offer lifts from Bristol. Please send a PM if you think you might want one. First come first served. I will be hiring a car for this trip so I will, in return for a lift, ask for a contribution towards the fuel as I will have to return the car with a full tank so would therefore fuel it on return to Bristol. Dave
  14. Who knows? Either way, it is being advertised on the Minster's website. Closing date of 07th November, Interviews 01st & 02nd December 2008 so perhaps we will find something out in the not too distant future. http://www.beverleyminster.org/ => News, Events & Service Times Dave
  15. ot sure what I would have for two-stop version, but for a 4-stop version I might opt for something slightly German. Hence: Holzgedackt 8 Holzrhorflute 4 Holzprincipal 2 Terz 1 3/5 If I had the option of a fifth stop it would be a Nasat 2 2/3 Dave
  16. Good rhyme, Ron. A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from me also to all forum members. I also look forward to seeing a few in Worcester on 31st January. Dave
  17. Great. Looking forward to it. A pity about the possible loss of the tour inside the cases but I am quite certain it will be a good day nonetheless. See you there! Dave
  18. Is the day on 31st January definately going ahead? Will need to know ASAP as I will have to book a hire car for the trip up to Worcester so please advise. Thanks. Dave
  19. Excuse the pun but I am wondering if this piece should be referred to as a Toccarter? Dave
  20. I also seem to recall seeing him on Songs of Praise at one stage. Can't remember when though. Dave
  21. I thought these clips might be of interest. I came across them this afternoon and the clips contain fragments from the dedication of the Klais in Zaragoza. There are 9 parts: Part 1: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=SzOV5DeJ3co Part 2: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=C7WVX58k85M Part 3: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0AHCBXE-BU Part 4: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pAjUGnfwMfg Part 5: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ri634NT8OHg Part 6: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7IOfBHOqjXI Part 7: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=cJQwH5lmGEU Part 8: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dVX-F51UIcg Part 9: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mNVvrOq28QU Great sound samples in clip 2, especially the last one which - not suprisingly - draws applause from the congregation: anyone fancy playing "Tu es Petra" (Mulet) on that registration? Clip 5 reveals the identity of the Klais representatives sitting under the organ there. Clip 6 contains a nice - if somewhat slow, for my liking - rendition of "Land of Hope and Glory". Also great sounds in clips 7-9. Must have been a great occasion. Anyone know where I can get the DVD? Dave
  22. I take it this is definately on then? If so I look forward to it. Dave
  23. I have three personal favourites: - Darke in E - Darke in F - Mass of St. Louis (Speller) Dave
  24. Just looked them up in BT's online phonebook and they are still there: Bishop & Son Organ Bldrs Tel: (020) 8969 4328 58 Beethoven St, London, W10 4LG A Yahoo! search for them does not turn up a website, which is strange IMO in this day & age. Dave
