  1. Thanks for all this time and effort Mr L. - it must be the 1st new UK Cathedral organ to have such coverage during its earliest stages. The new 'chambers' are interesting - Mr Hope Jones would be pleased. I would also be interested to know some of the wind pressures. The Swell and Choir pipework looks as if it will be recessed quite deeply. Will the sound have to be 'pushed' quite hard to get out? AJJ PS Please don't take this the wrong way - one of the most effective instruments I have heard - of its type - is ingeniously wrapped around the inside of the most impossible of chambers. http://www.stpauls-kst.com/organ.htm
  2. If the spec. is anything to go by........... http://npor.emma.cam.ac.uk/cgi-bin/Rsearch...ec_index=N14982 .........you have something interesting from a historical point of view - you could try getting some organ 'heavyweights' on your side to persuade your people of the importance of preserving what they have. 3. I suppose that is what they banked on. AJJ
  4. I think Kenneth Jones made one for an organ in Australia not so long ago. AJJ
  5. I quite liked Downside's one AJJ
  6. Money can be more of a hinderance than an asset - one can think of a few organs where too much of it resulted in some odd excesses. AJJ
  7. Diocesan Advisors can be a variable breed.
  8. No - but by any adjustables if necessary. AJJ
  9. No comment intended here on the STANDARD of the music rather just that it was happening etc.!! AJJ
  10. Good to see he's still playing - Lincoln sounds good whatever you do on it - I wonder who was registering for him? AJJ
  11. No one so far has mentioned the London Oratory as far as I can see. I have a fairly recent recording of everything from Dandrieu to Langlais via Bach and Widor - the whole gamut sounds amazing - all played there with great taste by Patrick Russill. Certainly with 'out and out Downes' characteristics (it was after all his home patch) perhaps this could be said to be the most 'Downes' of the lot. And in a rather nice acoustic too. English eclecticism though? - I'm not sure. AJJ
  12. I tried to get hold of the Holstein Orgelbuchlein of Micheelsen recently (after reading an article on OR by Stephen Taylor from Utrecht) without success. 'Anyone know if it is out of print or where one could be 'got from'? AJJ
  13. Six Plainsong Preludes for Organ by Malcolm Archer published by Kevin Mayhew. AJJ
  14. Although this has all gone somewhat far from the Worcester line it is really very absorbing - rather like the days before we stopped getting postings from Pierre L. in Belgium (we really could do with him back). 'Good to have meaty organological chat rather than some of the more recent stuff....! AJJ
  15. Nor was it 30 years ago! AJJ
  16. I once came across a Danish instrument with two complete sets of stop tabs - one on each side of the console for two general combinations - possibly a record? AJJ
  17. A slim book of plainsong based pieces (improvisations almost..) by Malcolm Archer - good to have handy when inspiration goes before the service or during Communion. AJJ
  18. The classroom teaching is actually not too bad - I find anyway - it's just all the rest...........! It certainly helps now having an instrument at home to work properly at music on - and even start composing again maybe. AJJ
  19. Schoenstein also used them here: http://www.slcago.org/Organs/LDS_Conf_Schoenstein.html Jack Bethard has some fascinating solutions when designing organs that should not be too quickly dismissed! AJJ

    Worcester Cathedral

Doesn't the bottom end of the 32' Salicional at Llandaff Cathedral have some sort of combination of harmonics to achieve a 32' effect? I seem to remember reading this somewhere. I've never played a big Cavaille Coll so can't really comment myself but don't the 32' harmonics do something similar - Gloucester too etc.? AJJ
  22. Some conclusions jumped to here I feel!! AJJ
  23. Here's another - IKEA influences perhaps. http://npor.emma.cam.ac.uk/cgi-bin/PSearch...N08796&no=1 AJJ
