  1. And I'm Vox Humana's great-grandfather too!
  2. I am presently wishing that I had joined the same other forum with another name, for much the same reason! Hide behind me, Vox! They've got to get to me first! *paranoia reigns supreme with HG, evidently! *
  3. Unfortunately, I realized this a couple of days ago, and removed that link on my profile last Saturday. Would there be anything to be said for making these forums readable only by members?
  4. Coincidentally, one of my congregation mentioned a piece such as this during a conversation yesterday. I've certainly not come across it - and, of course, couldn't identify the piece for her - but would be interested in having more information to pass on.
  5. Thank you, Rachel. I think that sums it up admirably. I am now realising some of the potential problems of posting under my own name.
  6. Coincidentally, this morning I chose to temporarily remove my name from my signature for reasons which I am not able or willing to go in to. Regular posters here will know my identity anyhow. In due course I shall reinstate it. One of our eminent former board members resigned from this board a little while back because his postings here were being used selectively as ammunition against him, and he felt that this could be a very "dangerous" place to be. I'm presently in much the same situation and, whereas I'd always felt it important not to be anonymous in the past, can now see the other side of the argument, and am now able to recognize the fact that it should be the poster's own freewill as to whether to remain anonymous or not, and I think other contributors should respect that view.
  7. How is the old girl nowadays? I used to enjoy my weekly lunchtime recitals there, and thought it a very versatile instrument for its size, action "problems" not withstanding....
  8. I thought I saw some dim pink-coloured fireworks in the sky a moment ago, but I think they're porcine creatures gliding by....
  9. True. But, on the other hand, at one of our daughter churches they used to "brew up" the incense before the service - and leave it after the service - next to the air intake for the organ blower. The incense deposit inside the organ made a very effective glue inside the leather purses.
  10. Perhaps it's because they like to get a good-sized congregation at least once a month?
  11. I just wonder how the interior has become in "an unrecoverable state" and how come only some pipes are in good condition. What on earth happened to it?
  12. Well, as it's music to be played on a pipe organ albeit in an accompanimental role, I (for one!) think it totally relevant!
  13. I think that might just be the point....
  14. Actually, this raises a very good question. Whilst the Murray is probably the best known of the settings, I find myself bored to distraction with it. But I can't think of one setting which I could recommend totally without caveats. Are there any really good settings out there?
  15. They were when I last had anything to do with them, which was a couple of years ago. Bishop & Son. 58, Beethoven St, London, W10 4LG Tel: 020 8969 4328 Maurice Merrell was/is MD.
  16. You're not the only one, Malcolm. I have the same problem. It's unusual as I find that all the other discussion forums to which I belong - including another supplied by the same Invision Power Board - always remember me, but this one generally doesn't. I'm occasionally amazed when it does! G
  17. There are only a few pieces which I could play from memory - or just about from memory! However, I've accepted a challenge of doing the Widor Toccata blindfolded at a concert in two weeks time. I'm wondering exactly how to go about trying to commit this all to memory, and wondering why I found myself saying yes!
  18. Evidently not! Put a few pistons on it, and I'm sure it would be very useful indeed!
  19. An interesting new thread here, perhaps.... Who'd prefer a sketchy five decker over a comprehensive three decker with modern registrational aids...? I think I'd go for the latter....
  20. I'm surprised then that, as we've returned to UT (GMT), the board doesn't reflect that. Perhaps I'm missing something, or have my settings set to BST?
  21. And the board doesn't seem to have taken into account that the clocks have gone back!
