  1. I doubt that you're the only one....
  2. Nope! That's when you're absolutely correct in saying that you can't improvise for toffee!
  3. But for a decent single malt, perhaps....
  4. http://npor.emma.cam.ac.uk/cgi-bin/Rsearch...ec_index=N06607 These were balanced swell pedals ab initio offset to the right. The choir pedal is a nuisance as, when closed, it makes top D sharp impossible to play.
  5. Oh, ok then! I'll just imagine I turned up at the last minute to play for something and found the pistons all blank and had to set up something in a hurry. Sw 1: Echo Gamba, Voix Celeste Sw 2: Flutes 8 & 4 Sw 3: Diapasons 8 & 4 Sw 4: Diapasons chorus to Mixture Sw 5: As 4 plus Cornopean Sw 6: Full Swell Gt 1: Stopt Diapason Gt 2: Open Diapason Gt 3: Diapasons 8 & 4 Gt 4: Diapasons 8, 4, 2 Gt 5: Diapasons 8, 4, 2 plus Mixture and Double Gt 6: As 5 plus Trumpet As I tend to use "Gt and Pedal pistons combined" I would set the Pedal pistons to match the Great pistons. I would probably not put a crescendo on the General pistons, but reserve those for different "effects".
  6. That looks like a very useful specification, EG. But I just don't know how anybody could give a worthwhile answer to that (apart from just giving a chorus build up "on paper") without actually hearing the instrument.
  7. http://www.virgilfoxlegacy.com/mp3/audio01/SweetDeath.html Am I alone in thinking that this is utterly gorgeous? *awaits first clever reply of "yes"*
  8. Oh, I dunno! It is quite tricky to bring off properly IMHO.
  9. Hear, hear! Both open doubles and stopped doubles have their uses and - well voiced, and used with discretion - add gravitas without a cloying effect.
  10. To quote the litany: "Good Lord, deliver us"! No more, please....
  11. Agreed, although I'm not entirely convinced by the harmonisation. I found at school that the poetry of Wilfred Owen was so intensely poignant that it actually helped kindle my love of poetry.
  12. Thomas Trotter's arrangement is quite tricky, but worthwhile.
  13. No, indeed. But if it's a problem with SNR, the ISP can probably put you on a slower profile to increase stability.
  14. You'd be surprised, Jonathan! That's actually about the worst time of day. It would probably pay to check your modem settings and see just what the signal to noise ratio is when you have problems. Or just unplug your modem from the 'phone line for a few seconds, and see what happens when you resync.
  15. I have it on good authority from a friend who used to sing as a boy treble at Manchester during Cocker's time there that it was he.
  16. Generally flue pipes are used at the top end. I've never come across them tuned in thirds, though, and normally it's just one pipe per note.
  17. I hadn't realized that Rachel. Sorry.
  18. Sorry, John. I wasn't replying to you, actually! Yes, I've noticed the same problem with this board becoming painfully slow at times recently. I think it must be a problem with the board's server. Indeed, another discussion forum run by the same company crashes every morning between 0104 and 0140!
  19. It could be because your signal to noise ratio has dropped as it does at night with so many people online. Unplugging your modem from the 'phone socket for a few seconds and then plugging it in again should allow it to resync and sort out the problem.
  20. If I used those as congregational mass settings, I think I'd keep it darke....
  21. I may have mentioned this before. Apologies if I have bored anybody with this previously. When I took on one of my present jobs, I gave weekly lunchtime organ recitals at the church, carrying on a tradition I had maintained in a certain city church, and which was good for my practising! The agreement was that we would establish an organ fund (the organ was rebuilt a few months after I took on the post) for future maintenance and repairs. I raised quite a lot of money for it with the organ recitals. Imagine my dismay to discover - several years ago - that there was very little money left in the organ fund as, with a change of Treasurer, it had been decided to pay my "salary" out of the organ fund. So, several years of giving organ recitals to raise money for the church had merely meant that the church had me for free for several years. Without knowing it, I was raising the money to pay my salary.
  22. I don't understand. Please explain.
