Coincidentally I one had an interesting exchange with Jack Bethards of Schoenstein along the lines of 'Cynic' above - keen strings, 'hybrid' Principals, varying scale flutes, enclosures etc. in the SMALL organ (small space) context. With a bit of ingenuity 'planning wise' and maybe some unconventional tonal arrangements much can be achieved. Perhaps more importantly much can also be played effectively. I also have a copy of an interesting article written by Bethards following a trip to France to look at instruments as described by Hector5 with a view to using stylistic points in planning new small Schoensteins in the US. You do yourself an injustice Pierre. Also....I suspect that with weights such as these on the reservoirs Howells et al from the 'Lucas Choir' will sound totally authentic! AJJ

'Good to see today's episode - as ever thanks. Nice also to read the name on the reservoir weights! 'Historic link with the past (along with those Vd'Os) which should help please any (if such exist) who still think the HJ (in any of its incarnations) should be still there! AJJ

I have seen this name crop up on a few occasions recently (Christopher Herrick plays his music on a number of CDs) but have never heard any of his music. All I know about him is that he is contemporary Norwegian. What is it like - style etc.? AJJ

The new transept organ (to go in the existing case though moved to the opposite transept) spec. is on this thread back a bit and the old mobile organ is now here. The old Solo organ presumably has gone, the 32s are to be re used and I seem to remember Adrian L. writing that the Diaphone pipes still in existence would be kept for historical value. AJJ

.....and at least with a house organ one can have whatever one wants without fear of upsetting anyone (apart from the noise) whether it be this, this or even this. In the privacy of ones own place short compass, long compass, meantone, 15th Century Thai temperament, toes, heals, thumbing down, baroque finger techniques or even backward flips are permissable! The 19th/early 20th Century French organ or harmonium repertoire contains some very interesting music including of course Vierne (both L. and R.) and on to Langlais. There is even a volume 'in the style' with pieces by Langlais and Hakim ('Expressions'). I play quite a few pieces of this sort on the organ - many work well on the sort of village machine that I have to deal with. I have never tried any of it on a harmonium though - I am afraid I am not a great fan - they remind me of country parishes I used to visit as a teenager - usually played by a very old person who smelled of moth balls! (And before anyone leaps in - yes I have heard decent ones - Ann Page's recordings and numerous perfomances of the Rossini PMS.) AJJ

Can anyone with a H2 help - recording my front room digital - on playback there was a general 'bubbling' effect (no it isn't the instrument before anyone gets a 'dig' in!) - am I setting something wrong? AJJ

'Sounds superb - thanks for all the continuing info. - as with the continuing Worcester work we are lucky to have those such as Nigel and Adrian to give us these 'chronicles' AJJ

I seem to remember posting this before somewhere but if I were able (which I am not - hence my faithful digital 2 decker) I would like something like this. But with a Dulciana on the Great - even if its bass regions were provided by devious means like 5-1/3's or 4' helpers and a Celeste on the Swell (TC probably) to 'wobble' with the Gemshorn. The two 8s on the Great could form a passable basis for a more robust chorus lacking a true Open Diapason. By the way has anyone here ever played this one? AJJ
