  1. Local Organists' Associations seem to me to be very much like any other organisation run on a voluntary basis by a committee. The one I presently belong to is superb - a nice journal every so often - mail shots with flyers for association and non association events and a regular email system for things going on in a broad area. There are also regular well attended trips out and about including to foreign parts. Organists' Review comes as part of the fee. The committee is ver efficient and there are enough sensible types involved to avoid the sort of inertia that comes from 'professional' committee types. Previous to this I was a committee member (later Secretary) of another neighbouring association which was the antithisis of this. I eventually resigned as on occasions nothing would change some distinctly dinosaur attitiudes present there. I think one has to vote with ones feet so to speak - in the cases mentioned - one is still thriving with many student members while the the could not even fill all its committee places at one point, serves its small membership but does not do much else. 2. Does anyone know if Dom Sebastian Wolff is still around at Buckfast Abbey? AJJ
  3. Morning Peter - I heard a minute or two then put on the ipoded (!) version of the BBC Music Mag. David Briggs Widor/Vierne CD intead - 'enjoyed that - though the concluding improvisation was a bit loud. My brain is not ready for gospel etc. that early. A
  4. Although 'Don' also sounds vaguely Mafia........ AJJ
  5. 'Agree totally - and after the initial surprise of your speed I actually quite like it - certainly some are too slow. AJJ
  6. David Coram has just recorded it at Romsey. AJJ
  7. 'Sounds nice - maybe also try with the Swell Octave? AJJ
  8. Dr Baker knows what he is about so it should improve! AJJ
  9. That's interesting - coincidentally I have just been listening to a recording of these and it occurred to me that the final dim. is always a bit of an anticlimax. Now I know why! AJJ
  10. Hoodies perhaps? Seriously - I am quite minded to aim get there (supported by the wonderous Mrs. AJJ who has even volunteered to run me to the Eurostar and give the small AJJs a day out in 'the smoke'!) myself. I'll certainly give it some thought. AJJ
  11. How long is it likely to last please? AJJ
  12. You're a genius - mine was doing the same - 'gave it the 'Vox' treatment and all is well! AJJ
  13. 'Just checked - it does say Brentford!!! - Oooer!! AJJ
  14. Or this one where seemingly someone who after consuming an over healthy ammount of Bordeaux took the wrong staircase while attempting visit Daniel Roth after Mass on a Sunday morning. It would have been interesting to see where they ended up after all the spinning around and lurching about - maybe head first down the 32' or marooned amongst Les Grands Jeux! AJJ
  15. I think this is where you want. AJJ
  16. Sorry I couldn't get there - domestic duties precluded - 'will get there soon though!! AJJ
  17. The funny thing though is that after a year and a half with my 2 manual Wyvern - no frills etc. - I have not got bored with the sounds. Apart from the artificial nature of an instrument of that size being in a front room of an Edwardian terrace house (which the reverb. just about makes up for) my playing has improved and so far I have not felt the need for extra exotica. A quieter 8' flute on the Great would be nice (I can always revoice the current one though) and maybe a 16' manual Bourdon but so far nothing more - maybe I'm just boring! AJJ

Welcome on board! - any chance of a recording soon of the new Copley? AJJ
  19. I once heard it on a 1950s Marcussen in Denmark played flat out full flue plenum and Pedal reeds from start to finish - the player was convinced that this was the way to do it. Many of the audience (including myself) were not so sure - does anyone still do this? AJJ
  20. As a regular finder of variety and bodger of accompaniments on a one manual I can testify to much of this - a reasonably fully fledged Lessons and Carols was an interesting experience. Somewhere on here I even drew up a stoplist for a one manual to play as suggested above with the aid of generals etc. It is buried so deep now that it would be impossible to dig up though. AJJ PS Back on topic Bangor is on the NPOR in its new form - the re arranged Choir and Solo divisions seem quite dainty on paper at least.
  21. Has anyone played this - the Copley at St Mary's Oxford - what's it like? AJJ
  22. The only example of Lawrence Snell's work I have come across was here and I only played it briefly in the '80s. It was fairly unoffensive as far as I remember and has now been replaced in it's use by a digital. AJJ
