  1. He is also very sincere and anxious to 'spread the word' (or rather music) - 'same as the rest of us in our different ways! AJJ
  2. Try this one also - you can download a podcast (via the music section on the left) of music by a whole gamut of composers. A very significant instrument! AJJ
  3. Just spotted a posting about this back a bit! A
  4. Priory have brought out Richard Popplewell's Concertos - has anyone heard them? I must admit that variations on 'Dashing Away with a Smoothing Iron was a little off putting when reading the description - but I suppose each to their own! AJJ
  5. Adrian Vernon Fish is around and about - here is his website. Some of Oecumuse's music is sold now by Geoffrey Atkinson here. Perhaps he may be able to help. These people are also worth a try. AJJ
  6. Mine are ancient 465s too - really good - I use them on all my contraptions here. I even tried using my iPod phones on the Wyvern - it was death by Mixtures!! AJJ

    Henri Mulet

You are very good to us all Paul - many thanks in advance! A
  8. There is also a new set starting on Hyperion by Christopher Herrick - the first played at Helsingør Cathedral, Denmark. AJJ
  9. I have a superb version of the Elgar Sonata performed by Thomas Murray (someone mentioned it earlier) on a large Hook organ in the US ( a Jesuite church - Boston? I am at work so can't check.) - the interpretation is fantastic and the sound of the organ gives the whole thing a lightness I have not come across before. AJJ
  10. Thanks for your trouble over this Adrian A

    Château De Candé

Thanks Pierre - next time we go I think a proper visit will be in order! AJJ
  12. We were in the Loire valley last week and I came across this chateau - where the Duke of Windsor married Mrs Simpson in June 1937 (I seem to remember someone famous played for the wedding too). Here: http://aeolian-skinner.110mb.com/Specs/Op00718.html is the spec. of the 1928 Skinner organ there - despite its wrong (?) place designation - it was/is the only Skinner in France so must be the same one. Château de Condé appears to be in a totally different region. Does anyone know if it still works? I was unable to find out. AJJ
  13. Amazing as ever - 'quick question - is the Great HP chest for the reeds alone? AJJ
  14. Schoenstein have included Diaphones in some recent instruments - one I seem to remember could have been second hand but others could be new. AJJ
  15. Things like this happen to electronic wizardry connected to pipes also! AJJ
  16. I have said this here before but my playing has improved vastly since I aquired mine - the headphones are a huge advantage in a terraced house and with others to consider and although by no means top of the range I have (so far) not got bored with any of the noises it makes. I personally would find (for example) a stopped flute and a dulciana too limiting (however much they were extended) - which is all I would be able to get into the space available unless I had a box type continuo organ. AJJ
  17. You've probably looked at this already but if not there are a couple of temperaments that Bill Drake uses which are explained. Best to email him or David Coram might know. AJJ
  18. Interestingly those that find there way to France are often much loved and cared for in their new homes. 'Have come across a couple in Brittany that went in where before there had been nothing, a harmonium or an electronic. AJJ

    Bury St Edmunds

I wondered about this too - there is a 'Great Reeds on Pedal' transfer but the 16' is there already. Maybe this is the means of getting the 8' and 4' also - if so why not just make them all available there in the first place? Fewer movements needed to achieve this. AJJ
  20. There has been something on here about this one recently - including a spec. It seems to look quite fun but is basically a rebuilt and fairly unaltered 1950s Compton. AJJ
  21. I have always found this a rather odd organ to listen to in the building (rather than on CD where perhaps liberties could be taken) - there is a wealth of quiet sounds of great beauty but anything from about mf upwards is strangely confusing - lacking in something perhaps? In the hands of someone who knows it the instrument can be quite impressive though - Fr Sebastian Wolff or Trevor Jarvis before he retired. AJJ
  22. Kilkhampton is certainly worth a visit - the Goetze and Gwynne at St Endellion is also worth seeing. Buckfast Abbey is also good for a trip as is Totnes. AJJ
  23. No use re London but we were in Norwich the other week and I found two music shops with a good selection of organ music - especially the one down near the Art College (can't remember the name - St Georges??) - there's also a rather good CD shop just near the City Hall. We had not been there for a while - Mrs AJJ did her degree there so we went back for a nose around - lots going on! AJJ PS Allegro Music gets everything I want - even the odd out of the way stuff.

    Help Please!

Try this Paul - and the others here too perhaps. A
  25. 'Just back from France...... and with the effects of the hour difference and a long drive not sure whether I should be on here or the other one with the poll at the start. The members CD sounds a good idea. I would be interested in playing a short piece of my own - wherever - only depending on whether it could cope with celestes in one hand and a 4 flute plus 2-2/3 in the other. AJJ
