    A Second Chance

Here's one that has been done for us already! 'Not sure whether this also counts as 'Post Romantic' - the spec. gives the impression that it could sound quite fun - the casework less impressive maybe? AJJ
  2. Yes! - that's what I rather thought. AJJ
  3. Did anyone actually say it would be 2 ranks though? For instance a 4 rank Sesquialtera with perhaps 15.17.19.22. might give more complexity of sound as an alternative to the quints and unisons in the chorus up there already. Rather in the same way as the alternative Great Mixtures in the Chancel and less as a sort of etherial RH solo 'combiner' for the odd Bach chorale prelude that someone might want to trot out on the Dome Diapasons! AJJ
  4. And maybe as there is also some vulgarity up there with the Trompette Militaire something like the Terzzymbel VI-X at Washington National Cathedral might work in the same way. On CD at least its effect is pretty spine tingling as a final climax to the rest of the organ. AJJ
  5. Interesting when compared with some of the Dixon schemes - such as this. AJJ

Has anyone got details of the new Llandaff yet? - that would be interesting to see - especially in the light of what has been written and what is presumably being removed. AJJ
  7. I spotted this too - can we be let in on what is going there? AJJ
  8. Many thanks from my wife, myself and the two small 'AJJs' - a grand experience was had by all especially the 'smalls' in duet on the two chamber organs - rather atonally though! AJJ

    A Second Chance

Thanks - it's just occurred to me that it has come out rather like Chelmsford Cathedral 'with attitude' - not intentional but interesting in retrospect - coincidentally we were there at half term! AJJ
  10. My lot are good - they usually listen and often applaud. Quite often a few come and watch and some even ask what the music is. AJJ

Wells Cathedral - Willis 1855/7 - if H & H had not got to it later - this would be on the screen - aimed at the Choir with something totally different in the Nave - Cavaille-Coll?, Hope Jones?. 13. This might help David! AJJ
  14. I'll be there - though maybe not with a brolley. AJJ
  15. There is at least one US firm that would build the above for you if you asked them nicely - perhaps also a digital version for your living room - touch screen etc.!! AJJ
  16. 'Off topic.............but................the last perfomance of this I sang in nearly had the organist committed to an institution for those of a nervous disposition - the pedal action on the organ failed early on leaving him with manuals only. He almost had to be extracted from the organ loft at the end of the concert and has not been quite the same since. AJJ
  17. Is the piece played above published? I've seen dances etc. by Jan of Lublin in recital programmes occasionally but not come across this before - 'would quite like a copy. AJJ
  18. There are some nice Trumpet and Organ 'Bach' transcriptions on here - nice playing too - scroll down and there are some samples. AJJ
  19. The ancient art of spec. concocting is not yet dead!! GREAT Open Diapason 8 Stopped Diapason 8 * Dulciana 8 * Vox Angelica TC 8 * Principal 4 Harmonic Flute 4 * Fifteenth 2 Tierce Mixture 1-3/5 III * Trumpet 8 * CHOIR * Claribel Flute 8 Viola da Gamba 8 Voix Celeste TC 8 Gemshorn 4 Flageolet 2 Chorus Mixture 1 III Clarinet 8 Hautboy 8 PEDAL Sub Bass 16 Open Flute 8 Trombone 16 * * Enclosed COUPLERS Choir to Great Choir to Great Suboctave Choir to Pedal Great to Pedal Great Tremulant Choir Tremulant Balanced Choir Expression Balanced Great Expression Mechanical key/pedal action & some sort of combination device (probably pedals in Victorian style) A village church with no other space for an organ apart from the chancel chamber where the existing 1 man. sits (also the clergy vestry). The Great 8, 4, 2 could be bracketed out with the two swell boxes side by side behind - flush with the the arch. Sound could then get out more than it does at present with at least some pipework in the same 'room' as the congregation and the ability is there to 'shut right down' when the choir are singing from the (small) chancel. Tonally the whole thing may seem a bit odd (multiple celestes etc.) - blame this on the sort of things I play and the way I improvise. AJJ
  20. I once sat through a performance of the Passacaglia where the performer played flat out - mans. to mixtures coupled plus pedal reed throughout - it nearly did my brain in! AJJ
  21. Dare I say it but there are hints of Audsley with the free floating departments coupling almost everywhere - they also suggest a feedom from convention and more than a hint that the sound of the music is more important than pre conceived ideas as to how to register it. AJJ
